Default Using a pace car lower on an 1985 gt bumper

I have a 79-82 front clip. The bumper is damaged on the driver's side. The orange light area has a crack and the inner support is cracked. Which got me thinking how hard is it to cut and fit the air dam to my 85 front bumper. The lower bumper on mine around the fog is damaged so even if I have to cut it's no big loss.

Advice, suggestions, or hate mail welcome. Thanks

You can make the PC lower air dam fit, but it will take some work. If you compare the belt line moldings between the 79-82 and the 83-86 you will notice the 79-82 is flat across the front and then angles off at the corners. The 83-86 front cover is a nice arc across the front. So the two do not match up correctly. Generally that causes a gap where the airdam angles off.

Obviously the cheap option is to use what you have. The better overall option IMHO if you like the look of the air dam is to use the Xenon lower air dam, https://lmr.com/item/LRS-3129/1983-8...-Front-Air-Dam that is designed for the 83-86 cars. Not an exact match for the PC lower, but very similar. Much easier to fit to the front bumper cover, will fit better, and looks pretty good too IMHO. The PC lower air dam has a lot of parts and pieces to make it fit "correctly" also the upper covers were specific to the air dam lowers both on the Mustang and Capri since there are tabs off the upper covers that sandwich everything together when assembled.

    Trey,
Any idea of the fit of this air dam on an 83 Capri?

Not what you need. You want the 79-82 lower.

The Capri front bumper cover didn't change shape only the moldings changed. So when looking at front bumper air dams, you want the 79-82 Mustang style for any 79-86 Capri.

The car actually had a xenon airdam before but it fit horribly. I have all of the underpinning as well. It is just the plastic which the lights sit on has a cracked corner. I'll take some pics tomorrow. Should be repairable.

3rd gear and some small trees. It's ripped up and never fit right. Then I bought basically a parted 1980 cobra for doors + oem fenders and got a big bonus.
