    Default Crutchfeld Instructions

I was searching online for a procedure to remove my stock amp from my 84 convertible. I found Crutchfeld's page on 79-86 Mustang stereo install instructions. On the page it says detailed instructions for removing stereo, speakers, power amp are on the Crutchfeld Master Sheet.

Click on the link and it takes you to another page with no master sheet but it says if you purchased stereo equipment from Crutchfeld they send the master sheet with the purchase.

    https://www.crutchfield.com/S-W86Z5Q...d-mustang.html

    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_264MAS...tructions.html

The redirect page appears to sell the master sheet for $9.99. Does anyone have this master sheet to share?

I would be interested in this too if your willing to share. I have a 84 that I'm going to be putting a new stereo in and this would be very helpful.

Honestly the factory speaker wire sucks. Abandon it. Home run new wire for each speaker. You’ll be happy you did

Ok, I found the 85/86 procedure as well as the 87-93 procedure. Send me an email or a pm with your email and I will send the scranned doc.

I’ll take a look for the 84 amp procedure. Mostly people by-pass the amp which is easy since it plugs in series.

Im looking for set up for an 84. The info on crutchfeld says the stock amp cant be bypassed in an 84 but mine is already bypassed.

I plan to run home runs to each speaker. I need to know if theres a procedure to removing the stock amp though. it appears to be a hard wired ground. Want to know if I can just cut it, or do i need to reground once its detached from the amp.

Also, does anyone have any diagrams or instructions on how to run front speakers to the head unit and the door and rear speakers to the 4 channel Alpine amp? It was suggested to buy a second amp but I think its overkill. Im only needing a pair of 3 and a halfs and a pair of 1 inch tweeters run to the head unit. A separate amp I think is not needed.

I started working on it today and I decided to just cut the ground off the amp. I saw that theres another thin ground that was taped to the thick ground in the factory so I assumed something else needs that ground so I added a ring terminal and grounded to the pan the amp was screwed into.

I made a base out of plastic, cut with a saw and cut holes with a dremel to mount a pair of JBL tweeters right where the amp was. I ran a new pair of speaker wires for the 3 and half's and will be pulling the console to run new wires for the rear speakers also.

After I get all my wires strung I'll have to play mix and match to get the speakers wired up to the head unit and Alpine amp.

Could still use a diagram. All my dash speakers should go to the head unit and all four lower speakers to the Alpine amp,

Also, on Crutchfelds site I saw this pic of rear of door speaker cover. Although I put mine in front of the door, I'd like to find a pair of these repro or used. I've never seen these covers before.

I ran new speaker wires under the console and put a few wire clamps under the rear seat to keep them from moving around.

I sorted through the wires and ran dash speakers and tweeters direct to the head unit. I kept 4 lower speakers on the Alpine amp. It sounds good but I do lose alot of punch on the dash speakers that I had with them connected to the alpine.

I was considering a second alpine but my head unit doent appear to have RCA ports for 2 amps.

The big thing I notice is how great it sounds with the door panels and rear quarters off. I think I'm losing alot of sound due to muffling of the rear quarters carpet and door panels speaker cover. Not sure what to do about that. Any suggestions?

Whoever the egineer was that created this set up wasnt a music lover.

Its no wonder almost no sound comes out of the back seats. The plastic framing and the carpet muffle it.

Anybody know of a decent rear speaker grille to make this function and look good?

We just brought home an 85 Fox convert a few days, not very familiar with these yet, do all Fox audio systems have an amp? Ours has an am/fm cassette, don't think it's a premium
