Identifying Motor

I just bought an 84 fox body yesterday and the owner told me the motor was replaced as the prior one blew up. I am pretty sure the motor is a 5.0 from another mustang, but I am new to mustangs and cars in general (I am still a teenager). I went to look for a vin on the engine block and found 3 letters on the back top of the block towards the firewall. My guess and my father’s guess was that the vin was just poorly stamped on the engine since 3 letters are visible. Is there anywhere else I can look on the engine to see what exact engine this is?

There should be an identification number stamped into the block on the passenger side in the area where the starter motor mounts. You will have to remove the starter motor to view the numbers.
