Kinda scary this thread popped up because I was just looking at pool tables last night. I'm not good at all, but love to play. My problem is the only place I could put one is in the garage.

Same scenario for myself no room

I could squeeze one in basement but wife is not having it

Last year was the first year the venue was held at soaring eagle before that it was in Battle Creek at Kellogg arena
Hard to get a 5 man team never the less 5 people that you can stand being around for 3-4 days

I have 2 friends that are amazing at pool but can't change a car tire never the less hate cars but known them since grade school
And 2 other fiends that are into nothing but cars and will not talk about nothing but cars and known them since grade school as well

All 4 Have families and you will never get all 4 together except 1 day and that was my wedding haha

I'm blessed that 2 are very competitive at pool and 2 have been into foxbodies all of their lives and still going

I made it through 8rounds in a field of 230 people in 8 ball last year
I got wiped up In 9 ball in 2 rounds with a field of 130
We made it through day 3 in the team event and placed in the money out of field of 500 people plus (5 man team x 100 teams

I can be underestimated at times because I will take shots that are low percentage on making but most of the time pull it off but these aggressive shots also hurt my win percentages so my matches are inconsistent

because of this shooting style I'm too much of a risk to have my 2 friends have me shoot on there team I said o.k. But find someone else to change your tire if ever needed and we leave it at that haha

So dont let me fool you if I was really really great I wouldn't be looking for a 5 th guy for a team I would already have a team assembled or be on one

All I can ask for is we play my friends team and take the win that would be f-ing great and that's what I'm assembling to do haha

By spring time I put the pool stick away and hopefully this year I can pull my. At back out of garage it's been down 3 years give or take but it's 99 percent and spring is less than 30 days away
If I shot pool year round I would catch another level buy I don't think that's possible with car hobby who wants to be the snide when it's sunny and car weather and your off work

Your avatar is that a 250 ? My dirt bike buddy (lol) had 250 4 wheeler that was my first go through the gears experice in his subdivision back in early 90s and I went through ALL gears was a fri king blast it led me to dirt bikes and quads but short lived hobby for me no where to ride

Yep, 86 ATC 250r that I've had since '89. I restored it in 2013 and raced it in TT and Flat Track. I got out of racing in 2016 and sold off all of the high dollar race parts, but have slowly been re-buying everything to put it back to race form. My racing days are behind me, but I miss having it as a garage queen. The first picture is TT trim and the second is flat track.

Love pool. Got to play against The Black Widow here in Indy once. There was a line out the door to play. She got to break by rule...and she ran the table on me. A year later I got to play The Striking Viking in Vegas at a game of 9-ball. She asked if I wanted to break and I said hell yeah! She said I wasn't a gentlemen, and I told here about what happened with Jennette I ran the table but scratched on the 8, leaving her ball in hand on the 9 Man she was/is a good looking woman!

I enjoy the game but don't kid myself by thinking I'm any good at it. I've had a table at home for abut 30 years. It was a retired bar table when I got it and the ball returns were all messed up so I converted it to drop pockets. It used to be in our upstairs and didn't get much use so when we remodeled 5 years ago I moved it to the basement. While I had it apart I decided to recover it and replace the rubber in the rails. I did some research and bought the premium Simonis cloth. What a difference! The rails are now real lively and the ball will roll forever on that cloth. The table has a nice thick slate top and I took the time to make sure it's absolutely level.

Doing those upgrades and moving to the basement where there are no obstructions to any shot renewed my interest in the game. I don't have anybody to play against but now I shoot on it a lot by myself. I play 8 ball and alternate playing as though I were two people. It doesn't take much to amuse me, obviously. I lift weights 3 days a week so I've made it my routine to go down to the gym an hour or two before the workout and shoot pool. I've been doing that for a couple years and can really tell the difference all that practice makes. I'm definitely the best I've ever been at it although still way below the what I'd call a good player.

I have a lot of room for improvement at positioning the cue for my next shot so I compensate by learning to make more of the low percentage shots. I have a better understanding of bank shots than ever before and am relatively confident of most of them. I'm also better at the combos and tight cuts. The hardest shots for me are probably the kicks.

Of course I'm playing on a 7 ft table, so sometimes I like to go somewhere and play an 8 footer. There used to be a really nice one at the local senior center that I'd shoot on from time to time. Nobody else there ever seemed to use it and I guess that's why they let it go to crap. They must pile stuff on it sometimes as the felt is now a mess, so I quit going there.

Here's my pride and joy with it's new cloth and rubber:

    408/T5/3.73's

We're not fast racers, we're more what's known as half fast racers.

Wow!!! Super bad AZZ love that thing I see them every so often on the bay in winter screaming

I riden th 250r 4 wheeler back in early 90s I was sitting on it and he said take it around the block I was only 15 ish didn't have my driving license yet and it was an absolute animal and was a ripper
Bond stock just pipe and nerf bars and was on each gear in no time
I bought a few dirt bikes and sleds but never 3 wheeler nor riden one
We were pulling up to a gas station and a guy was restoring same 3 wheeler

I went looking for a 250r and ended up buying the 400 EX brand new it was 1999 model
Had some definent grunt but needed another gear
My back then brother in law had Twin banshees and one was heavily worked but never ran
His stock banshee with pipes would be good match till 3-4 then 5 I was done he did 6th and riding on open roads was no fun cause he was always out front

Anyhow nice bike looks great thanks for the pics

Damn that sounds amazing and nice work on running the rack
You sound very capable of a player wished I could venture out of state for such an event
I however wouldn't be headed to Vegas with my on/off ability lol or out of state but would love to try it

For Jeanette of any pro to get the break is tough
Most likely they will pocket a ball or three off the break and you know the rest
I lost more hill hill games than I can count

Last year at soaring eagle I was 1 place out of the money in a hill hill match with a local guy I knew and messed up on a side pocket shot all I had the do was drift down 1 diamond and pocket the 8

That would of been money then 1 more match would put me over to the A side

That was the best pool I have ever shot and lost it to a local guy from my area

sucked that I gave it away but what I learned and the confidence it gave me to move forward is all I needed

I shoot twice a week 2 hours maybe and that's not enough but it gives me a baseline what it would take to pick up momentum

You have shot the best in the industry congrats what a cool experience

Here's my pride and joy with it's new cloth and rubber:

Beautiful table and the best cloth you can buy hands down nice work
The rails are so much worth doing
Look into I believe the rails are called "razorbacks " or something like that
Your table is perfect for what I would want
I use to play a lot of 9 footers and I bring my 9 foot stroke on a bar table and I find myself in trouble

I use to play nearly 7 days a week and 3 -4 tournaments a week but since I'm married and have a family and job it took some time away from playing as much
    19-25 I thought I was really good
25-32 I realized I wasn't and slowed down playing so much got burned out no progress found my wife and she bought me the 85 to build
34-40 I get lucky offen for 2-4 hours a week but owe it mostly to my defense game not taking low percentage shots as much and find myself hill hill quite often to players I shouldn't be hill hill with

    This gives me hope lol

I so want a pool table. I've been looking to buy another pool cue as mine got stolen from the house I was renting a few years ago.

I play pool at this place which has been in St. Louis since 1916. Rumored that Minnesota Fats played there a few times.

1916 for any establishment is pretty dang impressive to still be in business damn
I'm always curious how well the known players of the past would hold up to players today

    Thanks for sharing link

The guy I would love to play against is Shannon Daulton in no way would I be able to compete at his level but I would offer to shovel his snow and cut his grass
    For some pointers lol

His bank pool game is the best in the business along with Grady Matthews and few other legends but those legends do not play shannons 8 ball and 9 ball and one pocket games at his level

I always admired his game and followed his matches from Acu stats videos

Watch how he breaks its a lot of body English and just crushes the rack

    Simply talented individual overall

Earl Strickland in his early years is another favorite
When his 3 pump stroke routine kicks in he is simply unstoppable

He has been solid since he was very young and even today can hang with Shane van Boeing

Shane is on a whole new level

If I ever make it to Florida there's a place near Tampa tad south of Tampa called Strokers I would like to check out

    Default pc pool table

As teens, friend's sister and me used to walk to the bowling alley pool room, rent a table for hours. We still remember doing that.
Enjoyed playing pool in bars for fun when tables were open, no quarters on the rail.
Knew of two large party bars that had many tables and regulars who brought their sticks and money every nite.
Grandparents owned a bar many years ago. Burned down 2007. Found a 2 ball in the rubble. Of course i kept it.
Played kid size Fisher-Price 3-1 game table once. Had to kneel. One foot long cues. Fun. Played fine.

First family home table in 60's was 7' particle board. Basement. Poles. Ball would drop, stick in return run for minutes, then finally roll.
Never forgot the sounds. Was great fun. Could hear play upstairs. The cue miss ticks, crack of balls. Never ripped the felt.
In 1970's, replaced wore out warped 7' with 8', 3 pc slate floor model from nearby local Sears. Great price w/ mom's discount.
Had to disassemble in store. Was a family and friend event, 6+ of us to help move and set back up. Slate is heavy.
Even nicer after adding traditional Tiffany triple overhead light, had cues with real tips, not glue on. Played great.
Red/gold trim velvet table cover. Ball cleaner, the whole shot. Basement poles still got in the way on occasion.

Friends had their house tables you could never win on. Unlevel, different size balls, warped table, cues, uneven lighting.
But they knew the trick to win. Good times. One had overhead wire with beads nearby to keep score.
Another had table in dining room, unreal for 9 ball. 8 ball sucked on it for some reason. Shots of JD. Some 'rifle shot only' games.

One of the main reasons i have owned pc's...Games.
Vintage classic arcade, golf, bowling, pinball, puzzle, board games. Flight w/stick, NASCAR sims w/ steering wheel.
    And pool.
No room for a real table, purchased Virtual Pool 2 cd in 1998, and later Virtual Pool 3 cd in 2000.
No poles. Can play solo or the pc. Have it set in 'garage'.
Just got done playing a round. Plays smooth, especially on a much faster pc than game requires (Pentium 233).
To me, plays slop just like i would on a real table. Amazing. Hmm never knew it was endorsed by Jeanette Lee.

Played on this one at FWHQ, Mustang 50th open house:

That's awesome table I haven't seen that mustang pool table that would be awesome to play on it would be perfect for pic

Great idea for b day photo that's pretty slick

I wonder if that table is still at HQ I'm not far and would love to visit and try to get pic and hit a few

I want a table so bad but no room I told the wife i will put it outside in the driveway and blue tarp it
    Lol
There was a TV show in the beginning there was a pool table outside uncovered and that's where I got the idea
I think it was that 70s show

I first met my wife the first month or so we went to local fair for elephant ear and there was one of those pool table games set up with 3 ball I was crushing the rack laughing and upgrading the stuff animals and luck was on my side and the keeper of the stuffed animals was losing inventory

    lol

I have to tell you about this, one night back in the late 80's a buddy and I were shooting pool up till closing time at old Saratago. About 10 minutes before shutting the doors a group of people walk in dressed to the hilt in suits, lady's in dresses. Two of the guys had cue cases.
The owner said he was locking up and we asked to stay and watch this private tournament. He said yes and we got a few more beers and watched.
Those guys were amazing. My buddy was keeping an eye on the money table as the small crowd was betting on the players. My buddy turned to me and said, Dude, there must be 10k on that table over there. I said I guess that's why there is 2 guys just standing there with sunglasses on and bulges (I assume guns) in there suits.......LOL

BTW, the photo store/lab I work at has been in business since 1892.

I would pay money too experience such a duel in person like that i would also love to know who was shooting it out

And I would have to agree about the entrorage and respect for one another's game at that point

I know there's many people who are unknown that are simply flat out talented

That's the frustration you hit a level and you plateau out
It's really what you need to do when there is no shot or bad angle

The older generation who still play have played on far less quality equipment and they accelerated at ability

In fact there's a record on 14:1 game straight pool that was set way back in maybe the (50/60') that still has not yet been tied or broken

What is even more crazy and if you ever have a chance try playing on a snooker table 5x10 is kinda small there's bigger and pockets are crazy hard to pocket a ball the balls and the pool tip is smaller

I work on my stroke on snooker table with full size balls (normal bar balls) and it will humble you

Or your Ronnie o Sullivan in the making super super hard game very tight pockets o
Check him out he is fun to watch and is the fastest max out shooter under 5 minutes possibly under 4

Most of the top women pool players are snooker champs look at there footing and head placement vs

    Top 10 non snooker players

Then watch the old school players
Different approach all together standing upright and mostly closed bridge hands

the history of things that your lab has printed in the last century is simply unbelievable I couldn't imagine the articles really impressive

Think i remember an employee in the FWHQ lobby saying the Mustang poot table was moved from their rec room to the lobby for the show.
Guess it was FMC's table. Pretty classy corporate attitude to do that.
Was a real nice place to shoot in the lobby there. Plenty of natural lighting and space.
Wish i knew ahead to alert you. Sure will if happens again.
All one has to do is convince Ford security, at check point charlie there, to let you go play on the table.
Never know. Maybe customer relations can get you a pass?
Seem the, or one like it, Mustang pinball game that was at HQ at the Woodward Cruise, in the Roush display tent.
Maybe the pool table was around too.
They can be purchased new. https://carpooltables.com/products/f...ectors-edition

Default Do they use a ..pool.. cue as a fishin' pole?

Found this one. Been there few times. Never noticed this.
Always headed straight to a bar stool for a burger and brew.
Will check it out in person when out that way again.

Prob a plastic inlay or something on that table.
It is at The Raft, over on Anchor Bay, in Fair Haven.
Accidentally found the table clicking on the picture, in the Google Map left slide out, which expands into many pics.
Great option to show or view someplace and check it out ahead of time, food, surroundings, people.
Fun to 'travel' around like that on a snowy day. 'Hit' many bars yesterday safely from home desktop..
    Some still have table shuffleboard.

I see there are glass and water tables.

Wew- went to one bar there in winter once. The bay looked like the Arctic. Yet was active w/sports.
Living where we do, most have some boater in them without ever owning one or know someone that does/did.
Not a fisherman, never turned down a boat ride. Casual lifestyles. Dockside party was fine.
Weekend walleye catch dinners. Then everyone got rid of their boats, gave up ice fishing.
Growing up in SCS and Roseville, could smell the lake on certain days. Shovel fish flies in June.
Still do Metro Beach bicycle rides. Miss the summer steamer cruises on the Detroit River.

Interesting-there's 9 bars starting at The Raft and if you go northeast you can be hammered by the 9th in less than 6 miles haha
I agree with above and we have similiar story which is oddly funny.

The Bay offers year round fun which is awesome and if your not using it in either season then you're missing out. I had sleds and quads and d.bikes and was fun times and usually someone puts a car to the bottom during warm up at least 1 car in 3-4 year window

Have had two books for a long time.
Byrne's Standard book of Pool and Billiards
The Bank Shot and other Great Robberies- Minnesota Fats

Seen a laser pointer tip for cue.

Water sports. Lots of fun, work. Everyone got older, longer work hours, more into family life, and restoring their muscle cars.
Thought the same about the 9:6 ratio. Bartender said used to be 12+. Way too risky now, was back then too.
Gave it up. Teatotaler. Need what's left to keep cars intact and continue to calculate those scratch shots.

Bet there are cars sunk every winter that don't make the news. Then there is the ice drag racing.
A family member borrowed someone's expensive new ice shanty once. Was supposed to bring it back. A mixup. Sunk.
Sleds: 6 of us pulled two out of a channel one winter. Lucky was only 3' depth. They said ice suddenly turned to open water.
What a job pulling them up an embankment and across land to trailer.
Some guy living nearby came over was looking to claim salvage rights. He was told to get lost pronto.
Friend had wet suit and mask. After hooking up, he came out of the water with frozen hair and 'stash.
Can of beer was still on dash. One machine started next day, other one took 5 years to restore.
Still have couple sleds, a dirt bike, and one pool table in the family.

Was a surprise to see nephew (above) at Duggan's last summer during the cruise.
Playing pool with friends that live nearby.
Told him was proud knowing they carry on traditions of cars and shooting pool as recreation.
