New to this forum. Don't have a photo to post yet, but we've had an 85 GT 5 speed for 22 years. Was my son's first car at 16. Got rearended and they wanted to total it. I refused so Maaco was the only company that would repair. Hasn't been driven too much since then, but we are working to revive it. Sat in the garage alot, so it's not in terrible shape, but lots needs to be updated, re-repaired etc. Couple of issues we are working on are the rear end (grinding, so we're thinking new gear and pinion) and where to wire our updated halo lights. Have a goal to have it roadworthy by March 21st and an event at Myrtle Beach. We will probably be asking questions of those more wise than us!

    Welcome!!

85’s have a 7.5” rear diff thatis prone to failure as they are weak.

You should find an 8.8 rear diff. 86-93 or 94-98 V8

You can use the brakes and axles from the 7.5 to keep it 4 lug, or use various ways to convert to rear disc or 5 lug.

There are 5 lug conversion threads and 4 lug brake upgrade threads here.

    good luck!!
