Default Yet Another 85' Water Pump Thread

So I did a search and read through all the differences on the 85' water pump... It's got curved impeller blades, it flows counter clockwise, blah blah blah... I'm currently doing total engine rebuild and was just wondering what is the "best" water pump to use (not just for flow but for ease of future replacement). Since this was a one year only design I'd rather run something more efficient and easier to find. It should be mentioned that my timing cover was cracked so I will be replacing it with a new one. So I guess my real question is will an 86+ pump work if I am also replacing the timing cover and if so can I just use an 86+ timing cover as well and never look back on the 85' pump? As always thanks for any suggestions/help hopefully I will have some engine porn to post up here soon (block is at the machine shop getting blue printed as we speak)

All I can say is don't go with the part store listings or what it says online. Call the manufacturer to verify it is a reverse rotation pump. My long long cooling thread dives into this, since many listings for my 85 had part numbers for standard rotation pumps. There was an 86+ pump mentioned in there that looked quite efficient the way the case was designed with the impeller post #133: http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...rflowing/page6

Go with the 86+. It even fits on an 84 cfi cover. Some nice aftermarket ones are out there in the 80$ range. I am very happy with my Ford performance but that is out of production...

I should add, the only issue you may have is an added spacer for the air-conditioning pump due to a small change in the casting. This is true for the reverse 84 pump, not sure if it is a thing on the 85.
