    Default New Stroker Motor in 1980 Mustang

    Well, at least the engine and transmission are done now. I wanted to stay true-blue Mustang so we went with a Windsor block and a stroker kit for 347 cubic inches, 407 hp at the rear wheels and 435 lbs of torque at 4600 rpm's funneled through a Tremec 5-speed.

    After 200 miles it has proven to be more than enough power to move the little pony at mind numbing speeds, and it shifts more like a race car than a street car after the addition of a Steeda shifter kit.

    Still gotta repaint in Deep Impact Blue, install a 3.73 rear gear, swap to 5 lug wheels and restore the interior. It's only the first step in a long process, but so far I'm delighted.

    Wow, 407 to the rear wheels from a 347! Very impressive! What motor setup gets you that? Stock rear end?

    Winter 2020/Spring 2021 update... the five lug conversion is finished along with SN95 four wheel disc brake upgrade, 17" chrome Pony wheels courtesy of Late Model Restoration and Continental Extreme Contact performance tires. Custom dual exhaust with Flowtech mufflers.

    Subframe connectors just arrived, front and rear strut tower braces on the way. Then lowering springs are next. So far, so good.

    As for the rear wheel horsepower and torque it's normal in the industry to take the engine dyno gross numbers of 440 hp at 5750 rpm and 470 lb-ft at 4600 rpm and then go to a website like Wallace and presto! it takes off only 1.08 for 407 hp and 435 lb-ft.

    Detail nutters like me know the actual chassis dyno runs on normal tires and with ancillaries can be as little as 265 hp and 285 lb-ft on the rollers. If it made 407 and 435 actual rear wheel respectively , it's a 1.5 hp and lb-ft per cube engine.

    Richard Holdeners two videos on the Dodge 360 V8 van chassis rear wheel verses dyno gross figures can elaborate on that kinda stuff. But to do so here would just be crass; especially since that dang engine is so lovely you could put it in a glass case and have Ford guys drool on it at coffee time. Framing it in a Fox...work of Genius Mr Cox!

    0-60 in less than 6 seconds on a stock 4 cylinder suspension and a ratio that needs 3rd gear to hit 60 mph... all on 260 hp. That's even better!

    Many thanks. I think I'll eventually drop the gear ratio so i can reach 60 mph in 2nd. That should cut a full second off my 0-60 time. If i can get sub-5 second times, I'll be pretty pleased. Still gotta restore the interior as well, but I'm actually looking forward to doing that myself. Long way to go.

    Looks great, with that kind of power you will definitely want subframe connectors.

    Does anyone sell a complete interior kit with carpet, headliner, door panels, trim, dash and pad, etc? All I am finding right now is individual parts. It would be nice to order everything in a single kit.
