I just installed my brand new O2 sensors into my brand new H-pipe. And it was an absolute pleasure.

Added a new manual choke assy to the Holley.
Even found the old choke cable assy i used in the 80's. Time to use it again.

Of course the tiny choke rod hairpin 'launched' off the pliers when trying to install it.
Had clean rags stuffed all around the carb base just in case of this.
Oh boy no rag over the open carb air horn.
Could have gotten another hairpin, but needed to find it to confirm it was not down the carb throat.
    All is well.

Found the clip 10 minutes later an inch away sitting on a carb casting web.

Temp installed 4 new AWSF 24C Friday 9/6 until i get 32C's. Cleaned the wires. Runs fine. Compression test ok.
Took an all day multi stop drive around town Saturday 9/7.
Was asked about 5 times today what year the car is or take a guess. Pretty much always the first question.
Many had a 1979-1993 or connected to one.
Small group of millennials asked and took a pic with my parked car.
Couple of horn honks and thumbs up while on the road.
Nice weather, windows down. Enjoyable ride as always. Left the radio off most of the time to hear the car.

Got the car insured and licensed so I can finally get it on a proper test drive. Washington has the option of using a period correct plate on cars 30 year and older. I bought one off eBay last year and got it registered. I also bought a reproduction 1979 license sticker for the plate. $80 later and I never have to buy tabs again!

With this plate, I am also not required to have a front plate (WA is a 2-pate state). Cops here like pulling over cars with only one plate and with the added bonus of a 1979 dated tag, it will be interesting when I get pulled over.

well I replaced the air temp sensor and the mass air sensor, also removed the injectors about 2 weeks ago and had them pro cleaned (the before and after flow rates were crazy) and installed the 70mm throttle body that has the TPS sensor adjusting ring as its a 94 engine (love that) and drained out the water with a flush and added coolant.

Default taking a break from task to post

2.3 timing belt broke 10 miles away from home yesterday. Lucky, coasted to a good safe spot.
Sat on my folding chair with a coffee waited 1/2 hour for my local go-to tow co. Weather was perfect.
Driver laughed how calm i was out there. Why worry? Not the time to panic. Need to focus and not think too much.
Traditional F450 wrecker. Good people. Car was towed backwards on front wheels. Driver has Mustangs.
Towed back home. Driver backed car right up driveway, no need to reposition for task.
More details in 2.3 Turbo Specific tread.

    Replaced timing belt yesterday.
Test drove car today. Started, drove same as before. Ran fine again.
    V-belts needed retensioning.

Always apprehension as to when to go for it.
Decided to do like they did at DAP and do the others but left the hood up.
Jump in, fire it up, with no hesitation. If a major problem, it's near the tools.

What I did to any of my Foxes today was absolutely NOTHING!

Since apparently I am a glutton for punishment, I purchased a 1986 Bronco XLT 5.0 EFI/AOD with 97K original mileage.

AWESOME. The lease is ending on the TC in the next few months, and I'm finding it hard not to shop for a full size Bronco. I had an '86 a few years ago, and I've always liked them. You know they'll gain some serious cred when the new version comes out.

Yesterday... uninstalled the recently installed new master cylinder, and removed the power brake booster. What a chore that upper right nut under the dash is... and what an entirely unexpected rusty mess (with damp rust depth that looks like was no doubt affecting function) the backside bottom half of the collar-that-fits-into-the-firewall-hole and surrounding area of that is. Most definitely time for a new one.

Yesterday, replaced drivers side door lower hinge bottom bushing and pin from NPD. 1 hour job.
Bushing was worn out. Pin kept trying to work up out of it. Door would drop and not close.
Tapped it up a bit from bottom using a skinny screwdriver, then removed with long needle nose vicegrip.
The others look ok and pretty much require door removal anyway.
Tapped bushing home using the new pin and a small socket.
Would rather use a pin with E clip than a tiny hole and cotter retainer that bends too easy.
No up/down slop in door anymore. Did not have to adjust striker.

A large wood shim, for micro adjusting height on piece of 2x4 on a large plastic tote to support door, worked great.
That shim is now a tool added to the tool box.

Removed inside pass side 1/4 trim panel to access inner body structure.
Survay of rust repairs to rear bottom 1/4 panel, below the belt molding, over frame rail, and wheel well.
Vacuumed the rust chips from the inner frame rail.
Everybody is out of the small over priced patch panels. WTF.
I guess they only want to sell a whole 200.00 1/4 panel. May have get one next year.

Default quick cheap durable wheel well hole repair

Repaired a 2" x 2" rust out hole in ds wheel well arch behind the tire area.
Pruned rusted metal back to sound steel.
Cut a square of gutter leaf metal mesh for repair material backing.
Temp stuck it in place over hole with couple dots of dum dum from inside car
Then applied home window/door 6" wide butyl flashing tape over that to seal from inside car.
First try tried to get fancy folding it and it stuck to itself of course. 2nd try ok.

Working on the tire side of hole, applied and smoothed black plastic roof cement with a putty knife over the mesh.
Then worked more material on the surrounding area. Let dry. More to do later.
Done this before. Long lasting repair, inexpensive. Material is not fussy but can be messy to handle. Brown gloves work great.
Of course metal replacement or patch is best, but until then, this repair will work fine. Not a show car.

The plastic cement works similar to seam sealer. I buy the can version. Tubes are always hardened up when needed.
Also do use it on the house roof too.

    Default more body rust repairs

Started rust repair on pass side lower rear 1/4 and wheel well.
Trimmed rust back to solid metal.
Fabbed gutter mesh and pinch wrapped it to wheel well lip. Triple layered mesh in the wheel well.

Plan is to use roof cement in the wheel well area, Bondo Glass or fiberglass to reform panel body lines.
Took most of the day but am satisfied will work fine. Mesh is easy to work with and anchored well.
Used 3M 3960 black tape to temp hold mesh to metal inside the car. Sticks better, more durable, than Duck or Gorilla brand tapes.

I have SS, plain, and galv steel to make patchs as needed. Will prob rivet in a ss patch below the rubber belt molding.

Found a 1" Brown Scotch-Brite Roloc disk removes old 3M molding tape from body panel or from the molding itself without damaging the foil.

Also hand sanded an epoxied rust hole, in the drivers side A pillar, with a strip of plumbing emery paper.
No further rust seen in the patch areas.
Did find few more holes near them poking with screwdriver.
Used the black tape to cover the holes until weather allows repair time with JB steel epoxy.
