After getting the capri running, I flushed out the cooling system, replaced the door window lower bushing, got the dash lights working on the 88 dash, replaced the power steering pump and the belt tension pulley

Took a 8 hour day local 90 mile round trip ride yesterday to view funeral procession of L Iacocca.
Then a rare brief visit to another cemetery. Family and friends. A memorable day already.
Then further east to favorite Lake St. Clair coastal areas to view very high water levels in marinas, etc.
Fueled up, same corner (now Kroger fuel) as day i bought car 39 years ago Monday.
HOT in car all day 105-110. Brought cooler full of bottled ice water and dry towels.
Car ran fine. Temp N-O on gauge, quick restarts after heat soaked parking.
Still getting used to driving with quicker response from new carb.

Pulled the dash forward, release the HVAC box, and removed the heater core that failed in several spots. Next step, install new one and hook everything back up.

Thanks, it was very easy I used SEM Napa Red cleaned everything with Dawn soap and water. On the door panels spray the SEM clear activator before spraying the same Napa Red

Oh and what was strange from the door panels forward with the original dash and the headliner was canyon red and everything else was grey! and all the seats were covered in grey as seen on the drivers seat (and a very bad job at that)

Tested two used DIN late 80's-early 90's radios picked up at a swap meet Saturday.
Two for 5.00. Work great. Basic, quick simple to set and operate, no menus.
Needed a spare. Hard to find. Rare to find two in one day. Saved hours and coin searching at the pic-a-part yards.
Also have the Ford factory single DIN radio versions with cassette. Couple minutes to swap as mood changes.
I really only listen to the radio. Radio is teamed with a 50w rms amp (x 4) and 8 speakers.
Volume knob setting between 1/2 and VOL is plenty loud on freeway, windows down.

That was my plan for Sunday but I only got as far as cap & rotor, plug & wires (plugs on 6,7,& 8 were less than hand tight!!) I was stopped by a completely dead battery and nothing worth attempting to jump it with.

Default radio power and antenna connection repairs

Radio went dead Wednesday. Radio was working fine. Then was getting power failures.
Temporary 12v power splices failed, and after fiddling with the wires, blew fuses.
Got home, repaired radio power wire connections correctly, rechecked the others. ok.
Radio display does not pulse anymore with heavy bass either.

Radio power fixed. On to AM static. FM was fine.

AM radio is best for traffic and weather reports when on the go. Updates for route planning and changing conditions.
AM static is annoying. So is weak signal reception.
Finally got rid of the AM on-off florescent or neon light type static generated by the aftermarket 4 channel amp.

Signal center pins ok. Radio unit cable connection solid. Amp, radio electrical grounds were ok
Antenna ground was not. Checked this with alligator clip jumper wires.
Clipped one end to fender mast mount, other to under dash section of antenna extension cable outer shield.
Static gone. A ground shield break between the mast and radio. But where? Mast cable ground was ok.

Found the antenna outer shield connection, behind the pass kick panel, was the problem.
This is where the mast down lead connects to the under dash extension cable to the radio.
Replacement Ranger antenna cable extension did not connect well to the oe fender antenna lead's outer shield.
'Bridge' wrapped the bare parts of outer shield connection gap with thin bare brass wire and taped over that.

Fixed. More (normal) AM and FM stations too.

Installed a good sized external transmission cooler down low ahead of where the radiator will be.

Took a 40 mile afternoon ride to a pic a part. Hot day, ave 100° in car.
Part of route was same as tomorrows cruise. People and cars were already out early setting up camp.

Got 2 coil packs and an ICM for my 93 Ranger. 15 bucks.
ICM and one coil pack were Motorcraft off a 94 Ranger.
The other no brand coil pack looked like new. No cracks, dielectric in towers was fresh.
Truck had new hoses, MAF sensor, so someone threw parts in it.
Hey, for 5 bucks each, wont lose much if ng. Boy was it hot out. Water and towel helped.

Forgot to get a less worn looking seat belt buckle button for the truck. Next time.

Many congrads on the arrival to another part of the 'good side of life'. Better late than never.
A dream come true. A finished garage with space, vehicle hoist, dealer write up area style floor.
May have added another 10 years to the car's life.

Counting up all the DIY o/c done here (100's) plus maint, must have crawled couple miles by now.
Would justify cost of lift as a car tool, part of maintenance cost, 'handicap' aid for getting older or keeping younger.

Pulled the engine and transmission out of the Mustang today. I have freeze plug that is leaking coolant and a vibration I need to determine the source of. Decided to just bite the bullet and pull it rather than mess around. I think it was the longest/slowest engine pull I have done in the last 30 years. Must be getting old or slow. Anyway its out know and will start fixing the issues tomorrow.
