Default 2019 - what did you do to your Four Eyed Fox today?

Me ..... worked on getting an engine nailed down for my 85 Saleen project.
    -- James

Favorite thing I’ve said that’s been requoted: “"40 year old beercan on wheels with too much motor"

    My four eyed foxes:
"Trigger" - 86 Mustang GT - Black with red interior. 5.0 T5 built as Z. Original motor ~1/2 million miles. 18 yr daily, 10 a toy
"Silver" - 85 Mustang Saleen 1985-006? (Lol) Rare 1E silver GT / charcoal interior. The car is a little bit of a mystery. Current project bought as a roller, tons of Saleen / Racecraft pedigree

Also in the stable - my son’s car. 1986 Mustang GT Convertible. Black/Black/Black conversion. 93 leather. VM1 ECU. T5Z

    past foxes -
1989 Mustang LX Sport 5.0 AOD white/tan black top. Once I ran this one down I caught a wife.
Wife also had a 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe in the 90's.

    Default ok 2019

Untarped it. Covered only the greenhouse part.
Been below zero for most of the week. No garage. In 5 days span, from -40 wind chill to forecast 50 Monday.
Doors opened fine, no sticky locks. The Ranger doors freeze up with the door seam up on the roof.
Battery maintainer has been plugged in all week.

got the old engine out and tore it down. Was rebuilt somewhere down the line. Crank was turned .10/.10, bored .30 over with new pistons....all that care and the rods were installed wherever the builder threw them lol totally out of order.

Removed the eec and associated wiring and sensors, vacuum lines etc and started the cleanup of the engine bay. What a mess of snakes that was lolName: 20190204_143654.jpg

Walked by my 82 RS about 30 times today and did absolutely NOTHING to it!

I did start cleaning up the good used floor pan for it a bit yesterday. Nothing worthy of pictures, but did cut/drill/grind the extra firewall metal off the pinch weld at the front. I hammer and dollied the sides to straighten up all the spot welds cut out. Just need to finish cleaning everything up and then a LONG Weekend to cut out the original and weld in the new floor.

Well today I unwrapped the wire harness and separated the engine harness from the light harness. Got the light harness fixed up and wrapped with new plastic split loom protector and tucked away up the drivers side fender well...that was the easy part lol. Tomorrow I'll start repairing the few burned wires I found in the engine loom.

Well, today I went to a jy to look at a 4 eye they had listed on cl for a battery tray and the washer bottle reservoir I need. I was so bummed out it was picked clean except the dirty engine with rat turds all over it. Looked a little closer and scored a performer intake for $50 woohoo.

Just finished putting on the new timing cover and polished aluminum water pump on the RS. My old cover had a few stripped out bolts and was driving me crazy with oil leaks. The water pump was just an upgrade that I figured I would do seeing as I had it all apart. All fixed now!

Indicative of the non-care shoddy practices of some of the conveyor belt "rebuild" industry, probably grabbing rods to use out of a bulk bin of 'em. Do it yourself, folks, or be the supervisor of it all working with a machine shop or builder. Nobody is going to take care for whatever is your engine or is to become your engine than YOU. The '89 truck 302 engine that I took apart back in the summer also has 10-under crank journals and 30-over cylinders and flat tops, and by the looks of everything, not too many miles ago... but, there was no oil hole chamfering done on the journals, 6 of 8 pretty new looking flat top pistons have small skirt cracks (maybe from a pi$$ pounding, and/or the much-loved "cold drive-ability" common since fuel injection, maybe from overheating (no other signs of that), etc...), and there were also nonsense numbered rods in it... as in some with no legible numbers, two # 7's (neither AT # 7), etc... albeit all rods installed correctly with the larger crank bore chamfers located at crankshaft journal ends. I have number stamps, and will be properly numbering them before replacement pistons go back on.

    Default sno spoiler

Brushed off frozen snow. Partially tarped, parked for now. Car told me (wear sensors) it needs ft brake pads.

Melting icy snow sheet slid down the hatch glass. Good for a couple more pounds of down force from weight alone...

Have a couple of days off of work and several feet of snow on the ground but I couldn't wait any more. Moved her into the garage and gonna start to polish and clean. It's supposed to start warming up, probably won't be able to drive until May (she doesn't see rain or snow), but it's a start I guess.

Not directly to my car but I started putting up my spare parts for sale locally. I have a parts new edge and sn95 which will be donating a good share of brakes/diff and other underpinings. I also bought a parted out 1980 cobra just mulling over wether to use the cobra front end and hood on my car or sell it to make back some of my money. Kinda liking the idea of putting it on right now. But I will replace the factory hood with a 2.5 cowl hood.

Actually had a nice day last weekend so I uncovered it and took it for a short ride. First time in about 6 weeks.

I also ordered new wheels/tires from LMR. Wanted a 5 spoke but don't have the coin to swap to 5 lugs right now so I got the Race Star 5 spoke.

I spent the evening after work picking up my explorer shortblock and cleaning it up. Managed to get the new cam, timing set, and oil pump and pickup all bolted up before I ran out of day light.

Wew snuck in front brake pad job. Outdoors, no garage.
DS inner pad was gone. Other 3 were down to rivets. Parked for a month, waiting for weather break from cold.
Have had tools and parts staged since Monday, with warmth (with rain) predicted for today.
11mm and lug nut socket, c-clamps, air impact, jack, foam ground pads, insulated overalls, coffee.

A rare 50-60 degree March with severe rain events predicted.
Job took 1 hour total. Fastest ever did that. Pit crew attitude worked out.
Morning rain, 2 hour window with some sun, then rain again.
Thunder claps as torquing lug nuts.
Got soaked but everything was put away.
62 now. Severe weather moving into area. Back to the 30's again tomorrow.

For the record, old pads were Raybestos MKD-151, lasted 87,000 miles.
Replaced with same (NPD Raybestos SGD151M M2001-2A). Reused both grasshoppers.
LF caliper replaced 1/87, RF replaced 7/99. EIS rotors 1/87, 150K on them.
Overall, pads on both sides had almost even wear. All will be replaced later this year.

Need new cowl grill and w/s plastic center cowl trim. 40 year old plastic is cracked bad beyond further repair.
