Want to change headers & still be able to use the heat control valve from the stock headers. Like a set that is not all crimped up will fit. Thanks

Unfortunately I don't believe anyone offers a direct bolt on set of headers for the 85 models at this time. Virtually everything is for the 86-93 models currently.
You can make a set of those work, but it will require modifications on your behalf due to the differences between the OEM setups.
If you are just liking for a better looking set or just a few extra HP, I am not sure its worth all the headaches IMHO. Hopefully some one here on FEP can be more helpful. Best of Luck!

Are the stove pipes really that important to keep...do they do anything beyond the warm-up period anyway? I remember as a teenager I put off-road true duals on both my 82 Capri RS and my 85 GT. Both systems were MAC, complete from headers to tips and I tossed the stove-pipes. I don't remember any ill effects other than the cat-less fumes.
Like Trey said...depending on the rest of your system, not sure you are really gaining much unless you are upgrading the mid-pipe, mufflers and tails to a true dual system.

JBA makes 85 headers. That's what I have for my 85,but mine are from the early 90's before Pertronix bought the header line from JBA.
The heat stoves are welded to the second tube on mine, whereas the new style appears to clamp on.

85 GT - owned since 87
hanks for the good information. Fran
I had my stock ones ceramic coated. I doubt there is any flow limits without some major engine mods.

I always wondered how good the stock headers flowed.i like this idea.how much is it to have a set coated?ill be taking off my original 85 gt exhaust this spring, and doing a h pipe and I already have Mac mufflers and Mac 3 inch polished tips.my motor is stock so don’t need anything more
I believe it cost me $150-200 but that included sand blasting them too.

If your heads have not had the exhaust ports opened up, there is no point in putting an aftermarket set of headers on them... unless your 85 came with cast iron manifolds.
