A newly rebuilt AOD will need @ 12 qts of fluid including the converter.
I run Amsoil transmission fluid in my personal vehicles when possible. Did a full flush and fill on my 2004 F250 5R100 back in 2005 at 60K miles. Installed Amsoil transmission fluid for it. Haven't changed it since, nothing but filter changes and top offs since and still going strong at 225K right now. Good stuff IMHO. Oh and did the exact same flush and fill with my father-in-laws 2002 F250 E40D. He pulls a 36 ft gooseneck RV all the time with it and has 200K on his with no issues.

The last auto I filled was a C3 and upcoming will be a C4.
Recommended for the C3 in the Ford book was Type F (and also for the PS system). I found Type F not the easiest to find but did get some Castrol TransMax Type F at Napa up here in Canada.
AOD/AODE/4R70W/75W/E fluid - any quality synthetic oil equal to Mercon V.
