It has to do with the difference in where they source the exhaust gas for EGR from. On 86-93 the exhaust gas comes from the cylinder heads and up through the intake manifold to the EGR valve. On 94-95 the exhaust gas is sourced from the passenger side exhaust header and runs up a pipe directly into the EGR valve.
