    Default Ian's 82 GT build

Hi everyone, new member here. My name is Ian, and I live just south of Detroit, Michigan. I am currently building an 82 GT hatch, and I joined here to ask questions as needed and share progress.

As for the car, it's a 1982 GT hatch. Unknown miles, but it's a clean Louisiana car.

Mods (will be updated as stuff is added)

    306 with TKO500
8 point cage by Kohr Motorsports
    20 gallon fuel cell

I definitely intend on updating as frequently as I can!

So what are your plans for the GT? Track car or street car?

Street car that I plan on drifting and autocrossing frequently. Actual drift events, not on the street.

Build it for Waterford Hills. That looks like a road race cage.

Great looking car, have fun with it. But might like those Vans even more... Reminds me of my Freestyle/BMX days. Fun, fun times...

    Welcome to the site!

Are your plans to remove the cage and make it look more original at first glance or are you keeping it as is and building the car around it

The cage was just completed. I just picked it up from Kohr.

Small update, as it's the end of the season and the car hasn't been top priority.

My wife and I moved and now I actually have a garage to work in instead of the parking lot of an apartment that would yell at me for having a wheel off the car.

Finished plumbing the fuel cell. Currently going through previous owner's mess of wiring. Probably going to buy a Painless harness and rewire the car this winter with my dad.

Also ditched the Welds for some aftermarket Pony wheels, got the set for $50 from a local gentlemen.

Not running yet unfortunately. Haven't had a ton of free time with it.

I got it started and there was a lot of valvetrain noise. I dug into the engine and found a lifter that was smashed flat and it ate the cam.

I swapped in a B303 cam because it was cheap, along with a new Motorcraft timing set. Also swapped the valve covers, and went from the Victor Jr. intake to a Performer 289. Also bought a set of shorty headers because the long tubes on the car are hitting the steering shaft.

Everything is put back together and I no longer have spark. All the wiring in the car is Swiss cheese.

I don't really want to just try to patch the harness back together to get it to work. I'm going to just buy a kit and rewire the entire car for reliability.

I miss my 82GT, I think one of the best looking foxbodies. Just me though.
