Think about this:
Carroll Shelby built over 3,000 Shelby Mustangs in ONE SINGLE MODEL YEAR 1967.
Steve Saleen ONLY built about 2,700 TOTAL Foxbody Saleen Mustangs from 1984-1993.
Now if you are an "Old Fart" from the 1960's-1970's Carroll Shelby was "Your Guy"!
HOWEVER if you 16 in the late 1980's and early 1990's Steve Saleen was "Your" Carroll Shelby.
Steve almost continuously built some sort of Saleen Mustang from 1984 through 2012 or somewhere in that time frame. That's almost 30 years!
Carroll Built Shelby Mustangs (Over 10,000 of them) from 1965-1970. By 1970 nobody wanted em as they had to Re-VIN the left over 1969 model Shelby Mustangs to sell em as 1970 models to get rid of em as Carroll had said to Hell With This Crap and went to Africa by 1970-1971.
The "Old Farts" are now "Fat, 60 and Up" and are now selling their crap so they can downsize. That late 1980's early 1990's 16 year old is now 40+ years of age, maybe getting rid of the kids at home, has maybe achieved a little success in life and NOW want's to buy and can afford HIS HIGH SCHOOL DREAM CAR!
That dream car is 5.0 5 Speed Mustang, Saleen Mustang, IROC Camaro, 3rd Gen Z28 Camaro and so on. It's NOT a 65-66 Mustang, 1697 Shelby Mustang, 1st Gen Camaro of any of those "Old Man" Musclecar's.
Kinda sounds like History repeating itself with "Young Guys" now wanting to buy and now able to afford their High School Dream Car just like the "Old Farts" before them DOESN'T IT!!!!

Yea, I am WAY overdue on buying an actual four eyed Saleen.
Building what I am with my 85GT has been quite an experience, but it will never bring the value of a real Saleen --- even though it has all of the exact same parts plus a bunch of massive upgrades going in.
I've been looking a lot lately. I'll get a lot more aggressive as funds permit too.
To expand further on Mike's Shelby/Saleen stats:
Total 1984 - 1993 Saleen Production (Fox Body)
2,704 Saleen Mustangs Built from 1984-1993

Total 1984 - 1986 Saleen Production

Shelby built 2,942 Mustangs from 1965-1966
(.23% of 1965-1966 Mustang Production)

And by October 1970, major Ford dealers were nearly giving new Shelbys away.

They have been saying that about SVO's for the past 20 years. Still waiting for them to "Take Off".

There’s been a few of these types of articles in the last few years. All of us hardcore enthusiasts agree, but I don’t think the rest of the world gets it.
85 Saleen Mustang(s)
Unfortunately not. I found this (full-page) ad several years ago in the bottom of box of "stuff" that my mother had packed away in the back of a basement closet.
