I'm still plugging away at this, had to take a week off and make a run to the great white north (Wisconsin). There's a light at the end of the tunnel, and it's not a train, I don't think. I had to borrow the headliner from mcnugget, and then called the upholstery guy to find out he's on vacay until 1 April.

I had some trouble getting the brakes bled, and will probably still have to rebleed them again in the future as they're OK now, but not what they should be in my opinion. Trying to get this thing ready to get to the track this Friday night.

I hadn't been taking much in the way of pics as everything's kind of normal, just putting interior parts in, ball joints, steering rack, tie rods, fenders, installing new ignition switch, door and trunk locks and so on.

Figured some might be interested in the fan set up I use, I've got this on the red car too, and works pretty good, and is clean looking. The fan motor and shroud are from a Crown vic, with the heavy duty cooling system. There is an auxiliary electric fan in front of the mechanical fan so you'll know where to look if you want to replicate it.
    Parts before

Parts after, brackets are just some aluminum strips from lowes.

Got it out and drove it around to the front driveway. I think there's a brake hanging up, doesn't seem like it wants to roll easy.
I'll get it back in the garage this weekend once I get poodle pecker back out and get the piddly things finished up.

Took a video of it running with open headers, and a walkaround.

Never looked, just stumbled across it one day, and started looking for them after that.

Still trying to get a firm pedal on this, beginning to think the combination of stock replacement master cylinder, and gutted prop valve, adjustable prop valve, SN booster with 4 wheel discs might not work right. All new soft lines, new master cylinder, new calipers, new pads and it still has a soft pedal, no air comes out when bleeding the calipers, no leaks or seeps anywhere.

Its going to exhaust shop Thursday night so he can work on it right away Friday morning, and alignment Friday afternoon.

Used the lez-camino to provide vacuum for power brakes.

MC piston size is what matters, brakes work OK driving around, pedal is just a wee bit soft for my taste. Apparently the Lezcamino makes a bit more vacuum than the tired 5.0 in the car...LOL!!

I've been driving it the last week or so, it's had an issue where the datalog shows some peculiar readings, so have been trying to see what is causing that, but it ran so drove it and fiddled with it at night. I had intended to go to the track with it last night, I even fitted the slicks and skinnies to make sure they cleared OK.

Yesterday morning on the way to work, the radio cut off, and the it died, everything else works. Was troubleshooting it last night, but still haven't got it figured out yet. Sitting alongside the road while everyone drives by sucks...LOL!

Similar thing happened tome Wien I was driving my F100. While towing a buddys RX7 onto Hurlburt, the drivers side axle slipped out of of the housing about two feet and nearly caused me to wreck. Got it off to the side of road right at the entrance to base. Hundreds of people drove past. Only one guy bothered to stop and ask if I needed help.

The cops called my shop just after 7 and asked why my car was parked at the runway over-run. I and another guy from work got it towed to the gun range parking lot on base where it sat Friday night.
I checked everything I could and could not find any specific thing faulty, I had good continuity, fusible links were good, but it always struck me as odd that the radio quit the same time the car did.
The previous owner claimed he had worked as a professional radio installer, but I was a little skeptical of that, judging by the tangle of wires at the back of the radio. I figured that he had to have boogered up something back there, so started to pull the radio and found that a ground wire from the underdash harness that was grounding the ignition, and also grounding the radio, but neither one was grounded very good.
I took off his suitcase splice and ran a ground to the dash frame. Now it works like it's supposed to, I just have to rewire the radio up properly, but that can wait. Rod is getting his red 86GT prepped for a grudge match with this turd Friday night. I'll see if medium Kevin will be there to take video, otherwise Rod won't get his video up for 3-4 months...LOL!!!

Yeah, people and wiring. Cant trust anybody especially self proclaimed professionals. I had a rats nest that I pulled out of a 93 Notch a few years ago. Everywhere the guy could find 12v from he tapped into it. He tapped into the brake pedal, headlights, horn, fuse box, radio, etc. Every fuse in the block was a 30A. All that wiring on the floor is what I removed. Amazing the car didn't burn itself to the ground.

Made a quick video for when Rod and I were trash talking back and forth before we went to the track. Had a good time at the track, car made it there and back without issues, which was a concern in light of what happened the week prior. I need more practice in this car for sure, also car needs more gear to compete with Rods 86 rust bomb. We had decent weather, low 50's, that translated to 35 feet above sea level, not mine shaft air like we sometimes get, but better than what it will be in summer time.
My best pass was the last one, even though I short shifted 2nd, 1.77 60ft, 8.36 ET @ 81.39, I think Rods best was his last also that was 1.66, 8.19 @ 82.X

Also, weighed the car yesterday too, 3120 pounds with me in it (240), skinnies up front, steel wheels on the back., passenger seat in it, 1/4 tank of gas.

No worries, that was the first pass, I was way early. I think Kevin has some better ones, Pirate may have taken some with Rod's phone too, but Rod has a pretty laborious editing process before he posts any videos, so will be awhile. Hopefully the weather cooperates Friday night so we can go back there again.

On the way to the track last night I stopped by Johnny's to get an update on the dyno status. What happened when his laptop shat the bed, he got a new computer, but now dynoconn doesn't support the old software, so he has to get the new version of the software, but his dyno needs updates to work with the new software, so he's got to take those parts out that need upgrades, and send them to dynoconn.

As for how things went at the track, it started out being hot and DA in low 2,000ft, I didn't ice the intake or anything before making these first couple
    First pass was
    1.85, 8.61@79.9
    came back for hot lap
    1.87, 8.63@79.61

iced the intake, put my shroud around the air filter
    1.78, 8.36@81.5
    hot lap
    1.78, 8.40@81.15

iced intake, turned front struts to 3, from 1
    1.75, 8.35@81.45
    hot lap (missed third )
    1.77, 9.5@51.5

iced intake, added a little WOT fuel via Quarterhorse, also boosted launch RPM, by this time of the night the DA had dropped to about 1100
    1.69, 8.28@81.82
hot lap (got a little discombobulated at starting line due to car in front of me taking forever to go.)
    1.88, 8.59@81.14

Found a local guy who's son bought a running 86GT, they planned to pull the engine and had already bought a 3-bar explorer engine from the junkyard to replace it with. So I'm trading them some things for the 86GT's engine and will possibly stick that in this car as the engine in here as a couple weak cylinders. Might add a little cam, and do some head work before putting it in just to see what it'll do.

That looks like one hell of a lot of fun.

I especially enjoyed watching the last run where there was a bit of a tree lesson ..... or maybe a big breakfast being eaten .... Dave was that you?

The blue one was clearly the slower of the two cars. It was out a good long ways before getting driven around on that pass. It was much the opposite on the other passes.

Most of the time when I was doing a lot of racing the tree was one of the places where I found my wins. Always feels good to get a hole shot or when the other driver misses a gear and gets front row seats for their driving lesson. A win is a win, but those are the ones I enjoyed the most. Especially when you’re going rounds and next thing you know the faster car in the next round breaks in the burnout box or blows up right next to (in front of) you and you edge them out

My biggest problem honestly is I hate lifting at the end. Give me a few miles, right.

Yeah, all passes were Brad vs. me. I'm still getting the hang of launching this one so kind of slow on the tree. The reaction times in my red car usually start out with a 0.0XX. I'm outta practice, been working nights last couple years so hadn't been able to get up there on Friday nights with an regularity.

Looks pretty consistent. Enjoy the track time. Will be several years for me until I can drive one of my cars down the track again. Working on my coupe right now is so boring. Nothing more boring than body work. So much time and very little progress.
