    Default Timing cover quality differences

    I have the rotating assembly in (yay!) and am getting ready to button up the bottom end and install the front cover. I don't have a front cover (Well, I have one but it is old and rough) and need to buy one. When I look on-line they range from around $50 to around $170! Why the huge difference?

    I just want a cover that will seal well and allow me to use a serpentine set up, and, well, I would prefer to spend less rather than more on a part that doesn't move.

    Block is a 1970 but I am going to serpentine and electric fuel pump it. I can buy a fuel pump block off plate, no problem. Any particular brand better/worse?

    If you don't need the fuel pump opening, I would use this one.

    For wheels on the car I plan to get their 16x7 TRX replica wheels for a period accurate look. I remember doing business with them when I built my last 4-eye (the '83 hatch) and they always did me right.

    Should arrive next Wednesday...
    BUT- I just had a forehead slap moment - I am building a '70 block so there is no block dip stick hole... I hope this cover has a dip stick hole. Doh!
    Too late to check now as it shipped so I will know this week if I need to change it.

    The front dipstick hole is of no use with a rear sump anyway. You'll need to adapt one to the pan or use a pan that has a dipstick tube allowance.

    Copy that. Maybe I will make one. Drill a hole, seal it...
    Can anyone post a pic of where it goes in the pan? Hold up... The pan I have may have one. I traded the marine pan that came with the block for a fox body pan... Now I gotta run out and look.

    Nope. But there is a 3/4" ish sized threaded hole in the side of the pan on the rear portion that I am guessing was for an oil level sender idiot light or something. Might be able to elbow up off that and get creative.

    You might be able to use something like this to modify your pan to accept a dipstick.

    That is right along the lines of what I had in mind, but wasn't sure what to use for search words.
    Nifty! I should be able to seal that right up to that existing hole. Fill the oil and run it, after the first drain/refill/run I can mark on it where 'full' should be.

    I can simply buy a dipstick for that 7.3 motor so it fits.
