    Very cool, thanks for sharing!

i wonder if anyone knows the VIN of the very last four eyed fox of each variety. As assemble came to an end on the 86, 87 aero cars began rolling off the line and some 87’s rolled out before the last 86 was built according to historic photos.

Interesting. Never really realized that did happen. Last batch before SN95.
The seat signatures. DAP retiree luncheon. MOCSEM members.
Wonder if anyone attending would have known the missing buck tag codes were?
Wonder if any of the older guys in the club may have contact with or are a retiree from DAP?
They have events here around town. Have to probe for info of that subject at one.

And the fact that out of all the Fox bodies that are modified or are off the road / wrecked, this ‘last one’ has survived as all original. Crazy!!

That was the same thing I was thinking!

Incredibly cool story and I also agree with BMW Rider; that coupe may wind up being worth a pretty penny... I wonder if Dennis Collins knows about this one?

This is very cool indeed, but it is not the LAST Fox built. We all know the very FIRST was a 1979 Red Turbo Coupe, and the very LAST was a Red GT Convertible....both in the NPD Museum. Unless of course there is a discrepancy between first/last VIN and BUILT?

NPD has the first Dearborn 1979 Mustang assigned a VIN. I emphasized Dearborn because Mustangs were built at TWO assembly plants for the 1979 (and 1980 and 1981) model years, and each plant had VINs that started with 100001 each year, so there were TWO 'first' 1979 Mustang VINs. NPD only has one(?) of them -- 9F04W100001. The other is 9Rxxx100001. Were either the first built at their respective plant? Probably not.

Units were not built in order by the last six characters of their VIN. That number was the consecutive order in which VINs were assigned to be built at each plant. Each assembly plant had discretion as to the order in which cars were built and they did not build them in order by the VIN. Sure, there were some built in consecutive order by the VIN, especially identically equipped special models such as 1985 Hertz SVOs or 1993 Cobras, but that was not standard operation for the vast majority of the rest.

1FACP45E7PF198268 (NPD) claims to be the last 1993 Mustang built, with an 08/23/93 'built on' date
1FACP40E9PF215739 claims to be the last 1993 Mustang built, with a 08/26/93 'built on' date

The "built on" date was actually the date that the unit started it's way down the Trim & Chassis line. It may not have necessarily finished on that same day.

So there is a more complete article about this car in the December issue of Mustangs times, by Jim Smart. The gist of it is Rick Schmidt and Robert Blackwell are two prominent enthusiasts that know the history of the FIRST, and the LAST TWO Foxes to roll off the assembly line. Rick's red GT Convertible was actually built in June of 1993, and put away for "final assembly symbolic use" on August 26th. Robert's white coupe was actually the last to be bucked and assembled...on 8/25/93 according to the article. Its a really good read, ending as:

"Robert adds that, in conversations with Rick Schmidt, he has learned that three GT Convertibles were built and earmarked as the last ceremonial Fox, which was how Ford did things at the time in case it needed a backup plan. In the end, Ford didn't need two of the convertibles. Rick's GT convertible was placed on the line and driven off behind Robert's while LX to signal the end of the Mustang's Fox-body era."

So we are talking about last built, and last to roll off the line. Pretty cool story, and knowing Rick and his attention to history and details I can only assume it's true.

To be clear, 9F04W100001 was the first assigned a VIN (for assembly at DAP). (There was also a "first", i.e. 9Rxxx100001 to be assembled at SAP.) It was not the first to roll off the line at DAP. Build date on 9F04W100001's door tag is 10/78 or about 2+ months after production started at DAP.
