Default 5.0 has aquired a new problem

Recently I have been trying to get my 1986 Capri running right. Now I have a new problem, after I run it for a while it just shuts off like I ran out of gas and wont restart unless I open the two fuel lines on top of the motor. What the heck is causing that?

Not 100% sure, but that sounds similar to vapor lock or some type of blockage in the fuel lines. Is that the ONLY way it will restart? If the car sits for several hours or all day will it restart?

Might be worth disconnecting the fuel lines front and rear, then blowing them out completely with compressed air to make sure there aren't any blockages in either. If that truly is the issue, then most likely the blockage is in the return line since the engine runs at least for awhile.

Probably worth just servicing the entire fuel system if it is original including a new sock in the tank and maybe even a new fuel pump. Blow out all the lines, check any and all rubber fuel lines or just replace entirely. I would also replace the fuel filter just in front of the tank in the back. Good Luck!

You check pressure at the Schrader valve on the fuel rail. If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge you can rent one from Autozone. It should come with the correct adapter that you need to install onto your rail.

On I'm 86, there is a Schrader valve near the fuel pressure regulator near the back drivers side fuel rail. On my 87 and 88 cars, they are on the front of the fuel rail by the alt.

I've had cars where someone switched the fuel rail, and that removed the test port.

Have you tried running codes? If it runs for a while, it probably isn't fuel related.
