    Default Interior swap hurt value?

I have a 82 gt that has a factory red interior. I hate it and planned on painting it all black, getting black seats, carpet etc.

I just picked up a 93 lx that has a super clean grey interior. Plan for this car is to guy and build a bracket car.

I know it's not like for like swap and some modifications will be needed. My question is will it hurt the resale value in long run if I swap to the newer panels verse painting the factory stuff.

Turns me off instantly. But if I know it was beat around at the track that makes me walk away instantly.
In the end though, remember, it's your car and it's a free country. I guess it all depends on your future plans. Is it a car you plan on keeping long term or something you will likely get board with quickly and get rid of. If it's the latter of the two I would think twice about the swap.

No the 82 is stock other than a 4barrel and exhaust. I have no plans to ever race that car. I was gonna build it but the more and more four eye are becoming hard to find so I didnt want to go crazy with it.

The 93 will just be a race car. I am debating keeping interior in it and making a street/strip car but i.

Ill probably just paint interior and leave it all original panels. Sell the other ones if i plan on stripping car.

Aero swaps, interior swaps and I don't even consider the car. That being said, you do what you want with your car.

Yeah I had to get new rear 1/4 trim as my red ones where falling apart. So I found a whole black interior minus a few small pieces. I was just gonna paint it so it would look fresh. Thanks guys I'll keep her original

As with everything, some will agree and some will disagree with your choices.

I am not a huge fan of red interiors and especially the ALL RED that was in my 1982 GT also. So I know where you are coming from.

Swapping the interior out to all black will most likely hurt your resale value to an original type of buyer. Someone like myself, that is not an all original guy, not so much if the interior is done well and with quality products. My 82 GT is a black exterior and the new interior will be black with some additional color accents, just haven't decided on my final choice for the accent color.

In regards to the Aero interior. I will say, I am not a huge fan of the Aero dash, especially in the Four Eyed cars. I know why it's done and years ago, even started one swap myself, but never completed the swap. I do have to admit that I prefer the Aero arm rests as well as the PW/PL locations and controls over the Four Eyed cars, especially if the car is a DD. I also like the Aero quarter panel speaker location better too. I don't think swapping the rear quarter panels out hurts the value of the car much for most other than again an original type of buyer and since those are often so brittle in the Four Eyes it often makes sense. Best of Luck!

My 83 has the “porno” red interior. I absolutely love it. I look at it, how many cars do you see with a red interior? IMHO, everyone has black.

Yeah idk about the red. Either way panels need painted red or black.

I didnt plan on swapping the dash mostly the other stuff. I actually prefer the 4 eye dash to aero.

I don’t love red however if it were my car and the red interior was in good condition, I would keep it. Swapping to black interior is getting all too common. It’s almost like plastic dipping wheels. It was trendy for a minute; not so much now. It’s your car, make it how you want it!

Yeah the red panels just were falling apart. you could look at them wrong and they would fall apart like burnt toast. I just happened to fall into a complete back interior for a decent price and they were willing to ship large panels so jumped on deal.

I feel you I been actually debating going with a grey cause car is silver. Hell IDK maybe Ill keep the red. Either way panels will need painted so. Just want to get it done so I can start working on track car.

As I have gotten older, I appreciate the different interior colors that were offered in the Foxes much more than when I was young. I don't mind a red interior if its in good to great shape these days, but can't stand any of them when they are faded and worn out, no matter the color.

I have thought about keeping the mostly red interior in my 82 GT, but that car is so far from stock now, that it doesn't really matter in that regard. Who knows, it might still happen. I generally don't sell my Foxes and have no intention of getting rid of my 82 GT, so that doesn't affect my decision. I am going back all original in my 82 RS because of the blue interior and how unique and rare that is to see or find these days. If you don't mind the red and you have to recolor the panels anyway, I would say go back with the Red or at least do some combo of Red/Black or Black with Red. It can really set the interior off just right and give a great look while still being somewhat original. I recommend looking at later model interiors to get some ideas on what works and what doesn't if you go that way. There was another discussion about this same subject a couple of months ago here on FEP too.

Yeah I don't see myself selling at this point. I really like the car and I know clean 4 eyes are becoming harder to come by. Also seems like 82 front is a favorite. Thanks guys. I'll definitely stick to factory panels at this point.

Placement of, or lack of, some items in stock four eyed interiors sucks. Two that come to mind immediately are rear speakers (in hatchbacks) and power door switches. Rear speakers as far back in the hatch area as possible and pointed at each other? Dumb. Power lock switch under the armrest and power window switch separated from the power lock switch. Dumb and inconvenient. Both of those deficiencies are easily remedied by using the appropriate aero interior quarter trim panels and door panels. Although I do not like aero quarter windows so modifications to the aero quarter panels so that they mate properly to the four eyed quarter windows is in order.

I like the project that Trey did with the four eyed upper dash and aero console. Gives you a better console and radio setup. Then you can use a proper DIN or double DIN radio, and LMR's cup holder and USB console insert is perfect for that, plus a proper location for power mirror control should you decide to attempt that conversion.

Also keep in mind that if you swap to Aero rear quarter interior panels that some of the screw holes will be in different location. No big deal, either self tapping screws or a small drill bit fix that. The bigger issue is that to fit properly against the Four Eyed rear quarter glass requires trimming of the plastic quarter window. Usually 3/4" works pretty well. Good Luck!

Actually I have the console and ebrake covers to do a center console delete. Speakers are least of my worries. Music may not be optimal but its good enough. Ill upgrade everything and maybe even and an amp and a small custom box to help. I have a manual lock/window model so dont have to worry about issues with bad placement.
