Hi everyone I just picked up an 83 mustang GT with TTops. I will be tearing the engine and trans out soon and I'm sure I will have some questions down the line. Thanks for letting me join.

So I saved this car from going to the junkyard. It’s been sitting since 1993 well at least that was the last time it was registered. My overall plan is to bring it back to stock ish. I’m gonna pull the engine and trans and do a basic rebuild of both. The previous owner removed the intake and the drivers side valve cover. I have most of the engine parts minus the distributor. I guess the real question is is the car worth throwing a lot of time and money at it. So far I only have the trailer rental (35$) and a half a tank of gas into the car. Licensing the car should be about 150$. Any suggestions for a stock rebuild of the engine and trans would be appreciated.
I have the stock TRX rims as well probably not gonna spend the money on a set of tires for them.
Interior looks kinda toasty, is car from sunny hot area? Interior can be real $$$. Looks like only rust is by t-top, how about underside? Motor and trans. unknown $$$ until you get inside them. I like the wheels that are on the car they are period correct, cheaper to put new tires on them. Then paint $$$ My Guess is 3 to 5 K to bring it back, it would depend on how much of the work you would do yourself. This is only my opinion I am sure you will hear from others on FEP members who have a better idea on costs. Nice save! Good project!

Yeah the car is from SoCal the dash, seats, headliner, and the door panels are toast. Barley any rust but the drivers side seat rail busted through the floor.
Welcome to the FEP! Yes, you will find lots of good information here. You definitely have a real project on your hands here. Realistically to get this stang back to life will likely cost you a lot $$$$......but everythng in life is all relative. Things to consider are how much are you looking to spend, how much of the work can you do yourself, how nice do you want the car to be etc.?
Current Mustangs:
82 Silver GT - 5.0L crate motor, Tremec 3550 5 spd tranny, SVO brake kit, 8.8 rear end with 373s
05 Legend Lime Fastback - some mods
05 Screaming Yellow Vert - even more mods including Edelbrock blower
I plan on doing all the work myself from upholstrey, paint/body, and rebuilding the drive train.
WELCOME TO FEP!!!!
Thats a very common issue with the early foxes. I say it looks like a great starting point. There will be plenty of answers when getting going. Its gonna be expensive, but if you arent trying to sell its a matter of what your looking to spend.
P.s. great color combo my favorite!!!
LOVE this car! Has a ton of potential and being rust free is a great start! Good luck and use this forum to ask questions and post progress!
Great car, I love a nice ‘83.
