    Default transmission concern

Hello all I have a '79 turbo with a four speed . It started making a loud whine in third gear when I accelerate. It shifts and runs ok. Is it a bearing or something less serious

Try changing the trans oil. It’s always cheaper than a rebuild.

It will lock up at some point...whine on helical gears means SEVERE gear wear OR, more likely, a bearing looking to cash in its chips, iow the relationship between the shafts has changed in some way. It may start with one gear and progress to others over time.
