    Default 302 Timing Chain & C6

I'm looking to you guys for a little help with the 302 & c6 combo in my 79 F150. Well after the realization/revelation that my truck with 114k mile motor probably still has the original nylon timing set can someone recommend a high quality replacement? Also would it be a big pain/beneficial to put in a new double timing chain? Part numbers would be much appreciated.

As for the C6 is there anything I can do increase its survivability/longevity? I'm tempted to put amsoil ATF in it after how nice my t5 works now in the svo.
If you blink at the end of the straight away you'll miss the twisties and what fun would that be!

A Cloyes double roller timing set has always been a good go-to... ie. Rock Auto lists for your application, part # C3057X .

Since the deletion of adjustable bands and proper maintenance intervals of doing so with Ford transmissions, and lots of older stuff not likely ever having had their bands adjusted... adjust the bands. Fluid and filter change never hurts if it's been a while (or never), and neither does adding an external transmission fluid cooler.

The C6 has only one band, the rest are clutch packs. The band is only for second gear and seldom experiences much wear or need for adjustment. Usually if they were loose and slipping , adjusting was a last ditch effort to milk a few more miles before failure.

A fluid and filter change can't hurt, the older C6s had a drain plug on the converter too so you can do a full fluid change on them which will be better than just doing the partial amount that resides in the pan. Be sure to use a fluid that is rated for Type F, as the more common Dexron rated fluids have different friction co-efficients and are not compatible with the clutches and band in the C6.

The double roller timing chain will be a direct replacement for your original quiet chain.

Keep it cool. Heat kills autos faster than anything. I ran a C6 in a 72 LTD and abused it beyond compare. It never gave me any trouble. They are very robust.
