    Default Shop lost my 4180

So my stock (original owner) ‘85 GT is at the body shop completing the resto. Only thing, they seem to have misplaced my original 4180. I am not sure what to do now. My engine has been rebuilt to stock, tranny rebuilt to stock, no mods other than aftermarket water pump and radio. I want to keep it stock as much as possible. If I get a replacement carb, which one?
    Thanks

They need to buy you a replacement carb exactly what they lost.

If its documented what it came in with then it should leave with exactly the same thing! What a bunch of dead-beat jerks!

I would make them buy you a new one. I do have one on my shelf if you cannot find one. Mine is an 85 as well so should be the same.

I have to admit that I had things come up absent in the shop before. Never actually lost, but put in the wrong location, wrong, box, wrong shelf, etc. Then unable to find the part when its needed, so a replacement had to be purchased. Then usually right after that the part is found again.

Not sure how you lose/misplace a carburetor, but bottom line is if you dropped the car off with the carb on/in the car then the shop needs to buy you a replacement carb and eat the cost of said part. No excuses!

These are not hard to come by....and this should not cost you any $$ or effort. Make them find and rebuild a replacement.

Their other effort will need to focus on making it run right with the replacement carb. Jets, power valve sizing, etc.

Your question seems to be what carb to buy, not what to do about the shop that lost it. These are dirt cheap and not hard to find. Most people don't want them which is your gain. I have one in the attic but unfortunately, I also still have the car it came off so until such time as that car is gone, I am hanging on to it. Throw up a "wanted" ad. I bet you have one by this time next week.

Why did the body shop remove the carburetor in the first place? Also, if you do have to replace it, they have a date code up on the front drivers side choke horn. This should correlate back to the date of manufacture of the car. I had a chance to get one with the correct date code for my 85 a couple years back.
