Gotta order a Marti report. Curious to see how many Mustangs were equipped like mine. It’s a Ghia model but has the sport steering wheel and no center console. Love the times when there were 71 option boxes that could be checked. Ok I made that number up but you get what I’m sayin.

With the original metric Michelin’s over 20 years old, I bought a set of wheels and tires. I am keeping with 4 lug which as we all know limits selection unless you go with custom drilled wheels. I am not entirely in love with these. Reason being that I had a set of authentice Sterns on my 88 Saleen. Anyway here’s some pics.

The tires are Cooper RS3-s in 245-45-17 and 275-40-17

And for some reason I can only upload one pic. I will post the wheels below...

I am having some custom pieces being made for the wheels to make them unique and tie directly into my theme. Should be here later this week

Had custom wheel center caps made to bolster the theme of celebrating the car’s heritage. The Ghia studio contribution to the Mustang may seem insignificant, however it truly represents one of the many personalities of our beloved Mustang. What do you think of the custom caps?

    Center Caps look Great!

Nice addition to the wheels and will definitely look better than the SVE center caps.

This is a neat car, I looked at this car at the Fall Carlise, PA car flea market and car corral in fall of 2016. It was for sale by Jim Babish a dealer out of Jonhstown, PA, I believe he bought it from as estate with other Mustangs also. Was real tempted to buy it and didn't and regretted it. Then saw it for sale on here in Michigan, too far to travel from PA for me. Very hard to find nice square light coupes. My first car was an 86 Coupe. I have multiple Mustangs now, but the only square light is a completly stock 86 Gt hatch with 23,000 original miles. Good luck with the car.

I like the Ghia center caps. Just curious where you had them fabricated.

The center caps are super cool! A great, subtle mod!

These are domed decals. Many people make them; some are concerned about trademarks more than others. DM if you want additional info

Thanks. Best way I could think of tying new with old. My preference would have been 17x9/10 TRX wheels if there was such a thing

No pictures for this update but I did get a set of Koni Strts for the old girl. I have also secured a set of Bullitt springs. I will cut these down to get the height I desire. I know that some may have a heart attack over this, but it is a legit strategy with these linear rate springs. I have done this with my other Mustang with great results. I will have pics for my next update.

I came across an 82 GT bumper cover and fender extensions. I really want to pull the trigger however this goes against my original plan of leaving the body stock. Oh and there is a PC hood with it. Help!!

    Tough choices!

Ed's "street legal auto crosser" 79 has the Pace Car front end (same as 82 GT) with the hood and it looks great!

Ourselves on our 79 Ghia, I only intend to upgrade the stock hood to the reverse cowl hood. I am also seriously going to look into the 03 Mach 1 shin spoiler upgrade to add to the look

Ok I am labeling you as an enabler The pics of the red car are perfect as mine is the same. The best plan may be to buy the parts now and decide later if I want use or not

Update: I missed out on the parts. Sold quickly. Back to the original plans of keeping the body stock. For now.

Whoa that’s a long list. I really should get a Marti report to confirm all the options on my coupe.

Default 1979 Ghia Coupe Build Thread

I threw away some $$ today thanks to California smog laws. I took the coupe to the muffler shop to get a portion of the mid pipe replaced as well as the muffler. All of this is going to get ripped out when i upgrade to dual exhaust later this year.

When the muffler guy removed the muffler, he called me over and pointed out rust on the bottom of the floor directly above the muffler. Seems like an odd place for rust. The car is originally from PA and I am a Cali boy so we don’t have a ton of experience with rust of this sort.

It was hard for me to tell how bad it is as I only got a look long enough to snap the pic. I poked at it with my fingers and seems only an outlet layer is crusty? However, there is no outer layer so maybe it is an old protection material that has been sacrificed? I should point out that the bottom of the car is mostly rust free with the exception of some light surface rust on very limited spots. Thoughts on this?

That is nothing to worry about , much less lose sleep over .
Wire brush it and do normal prep and paint .
Most likely , heat from your muffler caused this .
