Thread: 5 lug swap

    Default 5 lug swap

Looking to do a 5 lug swap on my Capri RS. I would like to run come of the re pop vintage wheels, like the Shelby 10 spoke and 69 GT 500 wheels. These are 17in wheels with 5 x 4.5 lug pattern. Is there a swap kit I can use, or are they all designed with the 5x115 lug pattern? Any help would be most appreciated.

5 X 114.3 and 5 x 4.5" are the same bolt pattern. The first is metric and obviously the second is in inches.

I am not aware of an actual 5 x 115mm pattern, but my guess would be a mis-print or a rounding up from the 114.3mm.

    BMW uses a 5 x 120mm pattern IIRC, but that is not compatible with the Ford 5 x 114.3 or the 5 x 4.5.

More than likely the offset/backspacing may be more of an issue than the bolt pattern. Good Luck!

Yes, there is an actual 5x115mm wheel bolt pattern - primarily GM, but also the Dodge/Chrysler 300/Charger/Challenger/Magnum cars.

Are they all 5x115? I'm curious where you've found any Mustang 5-lug swaps that are 5x115mm.

There are a number of ways to do a 5-lug swap using OEM Ford parts, all of which are 5x4.5". See the STICKY thread at the top of this forum to find all the info you'll ever need.

I just picked up an 82 GT that has a 5 lug brake conversion from a SVO. Apparently there are two types of spindles/kits you can use on the foxes. LMR has everything you need for either conversion. If you use fox spindles your wheel choices are limited. If you go SN95 you will have much better selection of wheels to choose from. Jason the wheel specialist from LMR is very knowledgeable.

The link above is good information. For some more info check out this link. I wrote, photographed and handled the install on the 88 Mustang GT in the article which was actually my car too. If you have any questions hit me up I've done this swap twice. Once on my '85 5.0 LX Coupe and this '88 GT. I daily drove this '88 Mustang everyday 45 minutes one way and never had one issue with the swap ever.

94-95 Spindles vs. 96-04 Spindles differences are covered in this article. If you're going with wheels wider than 8" up front I highly recommend 94-95 spindles as they pull the wheel deeper inside the wheel wells by I think .375" per side. Double check the article.

Never run anything other than 94-95 spindles with a stock foxbody K member. You'll end up with serious bump-steer challenges that can't be corrected as long as the rack is where the rack is.

Thanks for the help, looks like I will be going with an SN95 set up.
