I have a 1985 which I upgraded to the 10.5" clutch from Rock Auto last year. I bought the LUK clutch and flywheel below for a 1986 Mustang. At the time I got it delivered to me in Montreal, Quebec for $205 CAD all in.

I also bought the FRPP (# M6397A302) pressure plate bolt and dowel kit for $25 from here: https://www.themustangshop.ca/product/303061/658677

    1986 FORD MUSTANG 5.0L 302cid V8

    • LUK LFW112, Flywheel (8483.50.0010) CAD$ 56.62
    • Shipping [Includes CAD$ 5.45 Duty] CAD$ 49.27

    Hope this helps

Interesting I just looked at this on the rockauto website and they list 4 clutch kits with that part number.

I'm also considering these from summit. Little more expensive but has good reviews. Any opinions on ford performance clutch kits?

FWIW I bought the Luk LFW111 flywheel and 7005 clutch rep set for my sons 80 last year when we did the 5 speed and 8.8 conversion.

Granted its the 10" version but still the Luk brand etc. It has held up nicely for a daily driver with the odd romp through the gears etc. The motor is mainly a stock carbed 302 with a 95 roller cam, E7 heads, dual exhaust so probably roughly equivalent to an 83 HO motor power wise.

No complaints with the LUK so far (after putting on about 20K this summer) and the price was very reasonable for the whole kit which I needed.

Cant really say for sure if the other stuff is really that much better for the price. However, I suspect it also may depend a lot on the power level your running too.

BTW the centerforce clutch plate I purchased 10+ years ago has the LUK symbol stamped on it...so whats with that??....found it interesting !!

Thanks for the info. From the research I'm doing it seems that luk and valeo make a lot of clutches that are then sold under a different name. Seems both brand have a good reputation for quality clutch kits.

Luk, Valeo, Sachs/ZF do OE and aftermarket.
Have Sachs kit in the car right now since 2012. Is hd speced for 2.3 turbo app.
Last one (#2) was LUK kit and expect the same service life from Sach.
OE (believe it was LUK) lasted 9 years. #2 lasted 1987-2012. Car on 3rd clutch.

Next one going in the Ranger (#3) is also a 2.3 turbo spec kit from Ford Motorsport catalog.
Stored, is a new in box NOS Ford M-7563-T200 HD 250lb capy, towing, turbo apps. Same as what's in there now.
Valeo is stamped on pp and disk. PP has Ford reman sticker. Everything looks like new.
Believe LUK was OE, lasted 10 years. Truck is on 2nd clutch and prob is due for replacement soon (15 years).

Am getting 100k+ from clutchs. Flywheels have been serviced, shimmed, but never replaced.

Ok, so it looks like I'm going to go with the Luk clutch rep set. 07042 and the luk fly wheel LFW112. I also need to order the pressure plate bolt and dowel kit along with the clutch pilot bearing. Can anyone link me to what I should get on rock auto? There is a national bearing and a timkin one but they have different specs. Not sure which to get. I've been screwed by rock auto once already because they labeled something as being what I need only to have it not fit. I want to make sure that does not happen again.

Edit: so I forgot that I already have the timkin clutch pilot bearing lol ordered it awhile ago. So I guess I need the throw out bearing. Is that another name for clutch release bearing?

Yes, clutch release bearing = throw out bearing.
