    Default Getting back on track

I am getting back to a restoration project that has been on hold for about 2 years. Life can throw curves.

I actually have 3 fox bodies that I have to restore. A 1984 SVO, a 1984 turbo GT convertible, and a 1983 V6 LX black over black convertible. The SVO is a totally rust free WA car, the Turbo GT is a totally rust free CA car, and the LX is a nearly rust free CA car. Interestingly, the LX was a car I picked up as a complete parts car to convert the Turbo GT to power windows and locks. I have since reconsidered this and decided to keep the GT as close to the original build as possible for a resto. Although a V6 LX is not the most desirable, I want to do a restoration on a somewhat rare color combo for that year.

Anyway, the current project is the 1984 Turbo GT Convertible. This car is primarily a resto mod. So far, I have upgraded the rear to 8.8 differential, fully rebuilt with new 3.73 ford racing gears and accessories. Rear suspension is has been replaced with all Maximum Motorsports parts, including panhard and torque arm. I have the Maximum Motorsports K Member kit on order. Anyway, today, I pulled the engine to get the engine compartment cleaned up and repainted prior to replacing the K-member and other suspension part. I noticed the Motor mounts are in pretty sorry condition. Doing searches on motor mounts to a Turbo GT convertible left me thoroughly confused. I can't find a source for the motor mounts for my specific application. I guess the question is, Are the 5.o mounts the same as the 2.3 mounts?

One other turbo related question. Are the motors tied the specific vehicles in any way. I believe the Turbo GT has the original motor, but I know the SVO is not the original motor. My thought is that since the SVO motor is a little tired, and the GT motor runs good and still passes CA emissions, I would rebuild the SVO motor for the GT and put the GT motor in the SVO. If the motors are in anyway tied to the car, I may rethink this option.

2.3 mounts for the SVO can bought thru NPD and Rockauto. They are not the same as the 5.0.

Yes I believe the motors will have the vins stamped on the blocks, not sure where though.

Thanks. I have the motor out of the convertible now, so when I clean it up, I'll look for it.

Vin # should be stamped on passenger side above where the starter is. I think above the oil return line.

Just got back from an out of town trip.
Since I have the motor out of the Turbo GT convertible now, I will remove the motor mounts and see if I can get a part number. I see from the advice from above that I can get SVO motor mounts. Everything I see for Turbo GT, excludes convertible. The existing mounts are probably usable, but being the anal person I am, I was hoping to replace the mounts while the motor is out, since I will be doing 300 HP minimum. Maybe, once I get the Ford part number number, I can get a cross reference to something that will work.
I find it amazing that Ford used so many different mounts on the same motor for different fox body applications. I guess that since the convertible mounts are different across all motor applications and the Turbo GT convertible production is under 700, after market production would not be viable. I may be stuck with using the existing mounts, or fabricate some solid mounts.
