    Default 79 wiring 4cyl to v8 swap

Picked up a 79 automatic 2.3 notchback with 65K and no a/c. I want to put a carb v8 302/351 and not sure if ill go auto or manual yet. Are the any good guides out there to help with this. My concerns are the wiring of making the 4cyl harness work with the v8. I want to know if can either splice into my 4 cyl harness for the v8 and be able to keep all the body harness in the car? Or get a v8 harness? Im trying not to rewire the whole car.

There's nothing to rewire, or major "harness" concerns. You may have to shorten or extend some wires, like for coolant temperature or oil pressure sending units that are located differently with the SBF V8, but that's about it...

What about speedometer? would i have to change that out? i would like to keep the interior stock looking and if i change that would the miles reflect the 65k? ie can i swap miles over to v8 speedo?

so just wire what i need for v8 motor off the original harness

Speedo could care less what engine is making it work.
If driven mostly on street, suggest keeping the stock 85 mph.
Seeing the needle sweep up fast is cool. Traditional 120 ok. 140's move like a stock one in a slow car.
Prob have to change to a different speedo cable driven gear to match one in trans selected.

Stock tach is set for 4cyl signal.
Dunno how to adjust for V8. May have to find a V8 one? Or aftermarket add on.

Some tachs had a cyl selector switch on them. You should see it in the lower corner of the tach if you remove the gauge bezel.

You can see it in the third photo in the ebay auction.
