Default 1984 SVO Power Steering Hose

So I've been having a terrible power steering leak from in between the hose and rack and pinion. My dad ordered a hose and we installed it, but it leaked worse. We think we bought a normal 1984 hose. Is there any word on this or website to buy it off of? Or should we swap the hose from one of the other SVOs we have?

If you have the original rack to the car, it should be a TRW rack iirc. Iirc it uses different fittings and hoses than a standard Ford rack.

Could always cut the ends off and braze the metal together. Worked for me when I was swapping stuff that wasn’t supposed to fit all the time.

Did you install the Teflon O-ring on the hose fitting?

We installed it so long ago, so I'm not 100% sure, but I do believe we installed the O-Ring

I would double check and possibly install a new Teflon O ring on the hose and see if that corrects the issue. I also recommend installing the O ring and allowing it at least 30-60 minutes to return to its original shape since you generally have to stretch it to get it installed over the fitting. If installed immediately, the seal can tear or rip and allow the fluid to leak.

As for the PS rack, that should be a standard Ford R&P and not a TRW unit. Good Luck!

Thank you so much! I'll double check the O-Rings, and if it is torn I'll take your advice.

Other than the PITA aspect, I would change the O ring out. You can pick them up at your local auto parts store for about $3.

Also keep in mind, that often the O ring can get shaved down in regards to the outer diameter when installing due to being stretched oversize. That can definitely lead to leakage. I personally have had to replace the Teflon O Ring on occasion for that reason alone. Good Luck!
