I'm going to try what I've picked up here as far as salvaging original paint. The Meguires #7 is on its way, and I've had a minute to see what the clay will do. I expect to have to repaint at least part of the airdam.
The rear spoiler is worn down along the top edge, maybe it can be touched up.

Do several Megs #7 treatments. That single stage paint is starving for oils!

Your paint looks a lot nicer than what I started with. And black is the easiest to touch up.

Good luck! If you were close by, I'd lend you a hand.

I've been following your progress with great interest. I will be repainting the hatch. Ford only primered under the spoiler, and I got about a flower pot full of leaf compost from under it a couple of years ago. Also bad where the factory louvers are screwed on.
I've had paint pens since the kids were small. I used to make wooden toy trains and pinstriped and lettered them with that tool.
There's a lot of small damaged spots. Apparently the birds around here drink brake fluid. I have yet to look behind the 1980's made to fit mudguards. Lots of gravel roads around here, bought the guards from JCW very soon after getting the car. Name: image.jpg

Going to get rid of the CB antenna while I'm at it. It had its uses back in the day. Truckers were always reluctant to pass me.

What a difference a few minutes with a clay blob can make. When the two cars were out together the other day it really was evident just how gray looking my car's black paint had become.

Ha! You have it easy. This car is practically a show queen compared to what I started with. YES! you can certainly preserve the original paint with practically no money but a metric ton of labor. I did this myself with some water and sandpaper. It is original paint.

The entire post including pictures of the condition when I started is here:
