Jalapeno red is a very bright red . Hard to distinguish I suppose from bright red , except I think there is more of an Orange tint to the Jalapeno.

Same color both years, even IF the name was tweaked in some books... 1985 2R = 1986 2R

As others have stated above, the 2R paint color is the same color paint in both 85/86. The name is a marketing issue and Ford was notorious for changing the name from year to year and even from model to model even in the same year. ALWAYS go by the paint code. The name is irrelevant when repainting or trying to match a color. Good Luck!

From the 1985 Rapid-Spec Ordering Guide (5/11/84 printing):

Page 4 - 2R is Bright Red for all LX and GT sedans and convertibles
Page 5 - 2R is Bright Red for SVO
Page 6 - 2R is Bright Red for LX sedans
Page 7 - 2R is Jalapeņa Red for LX convertibles
Page 8 - 2R is Bright Red for GT sedans and convertibles
Page 13 - there is a reference to the picture of an LX convertible on the cover of the guide and it says 2R is Bright Red, and it is a new color, which contradicts the info on page 7

In every other 1985 piece of Ford literature - showroom sales brochure, fleet ordering guide, color & trim selections book, etc. - 2R is Bright Red for all models/trim levels. In every 1986 piece of Ford Literature 2R is Bright Red for all models/trim levels. The only 1985 Mustang window sticker or invoice that I have ever seen "Jalapeņa Red" (Jalapeņa with an "a", not Jalapeņo with an "o") is 1985 Twister II. Not any other GT. Not any LX. Not any SVO.

PPG code for both '85 & '86 2R is 3718. So it is the same paint formula only a name change. Listed as Jalapena red in both books.

Sure, call it whatever you want. Point is, it is the same color, is the same in both '85 & '86 regardless of the promotional name it is called.
