    Default Chasing codes

    I posted this in the 6 cylinder portion as well.

    I have finally gotten the chance to chase the codes to discover issues that may or may not be plaguing my 86 3.8 convertible. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that there is not "Check Engine" light on an 86. so i followed some instructions from the link (
    https://www.troublecodes.net/ford/eectest/) and ran a test light from the battery to the spade connector as shown.

    My test light came on shining bright, I think I saw some flickers but was not sure. So I thought it was due to the incandesant bulb in the test lamp.

    So I rigged up a LED light thinking that it would be able to blink. Again same story. Shining bright with flickers but no pronounced blinking with which to decipher.

    Any ideas on how to do this so I can read the blinks?

    To positive battery terminal? There are a few ways, but they're all listed there how to pull the EEC-IV codes. If none work and you're doing them properly, it could be a bad ECU.

    You have the ability to pull codes from the OBDI harness in the top part of the engine bay, go to autozone or O'Reilly's and find one with the OBDI harness EECIV

    ^^^^^Easy to say. Can you post your results of said testing please?

    I am sorry that you learned a hard lesson. Unfortunately these really still rely on good old common sense and troubleshooting methods (aside from GoBlue apparently who has good luck with them). You have to take it for what it is. That was 30 years ago and the technology was designed 35 years ago. No, they don't just email the solution to your Apple Watch. That's not going to happen. I find it amusing that "not" having a check engine light is annoying to you when I still have tons of friends with IROC's and Trans Ams that the check engine light was on when they drove it off the showroom floor and 30 years later it is still on, LOL.

    This 10 year member might have some good advice.
