    Default 1983 Capri RS

    Foxchasis,

Here is the door tag and buck tag for a 1983 Capri RS I just picked up in Lubbock. Not sure what's in the Lubbock dirt, but this car has not been on the road since 1998, was covered in dirt and has zero rust! The 4 digit code in the upper right hand corner is 0315. Also, the NLR looks like it has an 8 punched in there as well?

This car is remarkably stock/original. Dirty as heck thanks to West Texas dust/dirty, but virtually all original and unmolested overall. Needs some TLC, massaging, a fender, paint, and interior, but the bones are in great shape and awesome starting point for a rebuild/restore. Definitely in better shape than either of my latest Capri purchases.

Thanks FoxChasis for the great info. I plan on a full restoration of this car, this will definitely help.

How many miles on the odometer?

Does this RS have any of the following options?

    • interval windshield wipers
    • premium sound system
    • tilt steering wheel

The "8" punched in the tag by the NLR code is just from an assembly line worker/quality check inspection.

If you take the interior part let me know if you find the build sheet. Thanks.

I'll check on the wipers, but it does have premium sound with the separate Amp switch and it also has a tilt wheel, with the leather wrapped steering wheel and cruise control. Where would the interior buck tag be found?

Sorry, I forgot, the odometer shows roughly 30K miles.

Sorry, I meant to type build sheet not buck tag.

No worries. I'll be pulling the interior today and will look for that. Also, is there a way to determine what wheels came on this car? It has sway bars front and rear, so I wasn't sure if that was the "handling package" and if that meant TRX wheels were installed??

Wheel type and wheel cover type will be on the build sheet.

If the front and rear stabilizer bars are a specific size it would indicate TRX suspension. Both TRX and non-TRX 'Handling Suspension' included a rear stabilizer bar.

I completely disassembled the interior. No build sheet found, that must be the one thing that the Lubbock weather did effect. And I don't know that I could call the rear sway bar a "bar", clothes hangers have a larger diameter! Also, the car does have intermentant wipers.

Thanks again for all your assistance.

    That is so NOT True!

The rear sway bar is larger than a clothes hanger . . . At least the diameter of an E7018 welding electrode!

I don't recalling seeing the tilt steering today, but then again you spent most of the time in the mud . . . I mean interior.
