Default 1981 Mercury Capri Black Magic

    Foxchassis,

Here is the Door Tag for my new to me 1981 Capri.

    VIN: 1MEBP67A6BF619688

    Name: 2018-09-02 12.31.57.jpg
Views: 378
Size: 119.5 KB

I was going to try and decode it on your websiite, but the door tag click link was not working for me.

Unfortunately there is no buck tag on the vehicle.

I am pretty sure the YA interior trim and the 1C paint help to verify its a real Black Magic. The car looks the part, but obviously a buck tag would make me feel better. I believe the engine was the 2.3 with the 5 speed and the 3.45 Traction Lok. I also believe the R code of 7 is the T-top option.

Oh production date is 01/81 if you can't read that.

    Thanks!

Thanks! I posted some pictures in the Show/Tell Section http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...f-Serious-HELP

Unfortunately more pictures will just make you sad and seriously question what sanity I have left!

No idea, the Capri has been ridden hard and put away wet many times it appears. I believe the core support was replaced at one point and most likely it was removed and forgotten or left on the original support and ended up in the metal scrap pile. Either way it sucks!

1C paint and YA interior does not necessarily make it a Black Magic. That interior was also available in the base Capri in the 1981 model year.

Thanks! I understand that, but I am pretty confident at this point it is a real Black Magic. All the striping is there, the interior codes match up, etc. The car has been abused and used, but there's enough evidence to me at this point to believe that what I am seeing is original Mercury and not someone trying to fake it. I will order a Marti Report and see what it tells me. Thanks again!

Being that is has a gold stripe kit and had a rear spoiler I agree that is most likely is a BM.
