Default Window wont always go up and sometimes drops an inch or 2 while going up or down?

I have an 85 GT Convertible and everything works great accept for the driver side window.

I don't ever roll it all the way down, because sometimes, it wont come back up. I can here the motor trying, but it's like the teeth on the gears are slipping.

I've had the door panel off, and followed instructions on aligning the window correctly, hoping that would fix the problem, which it did help it seal on the top a little better, but it still seems like it's jumping teeth on the gears. They are a little worn, but they don't seem to be that bad.

Could it be in the actual motor that's slipping?

I'm going to open it back up this evening and I'll try to add some pix.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The motor probably needs new drive bushings:

I picked some up in the help section at Autozone.

You can do just the white pins but they are a tight fit. You can also replace the gear assembly with the pins installed. It’s the black thing pictured. The pins seem to be universal across several car brands. The gear seems common from mid 60s Fords until at least 93.

Well those are cheap enough but I can tell you of the redneck fix I did for that same problem in my '91 F150. It turns out there is a nut, I think it was 1/4" that fits in there perfectly. I used 3 of those instead of the plastic pieces and have had no problems so far. I did the driver side a couple years ago and the passenger side earlier this year.

The whole setup seems a little half-assed to me.
