Default Exterior mirrors interchangeable from all years?

Are all Mustang exterior mirrors interchangeable from '79-'93?

    Thanks!

    NO

The 79-86 mirrors are one style and the 87-93 are different due to the trim change on the doors.

You can install the 87-93 mirrors on a Four Eye, but the shape is different and you would have to run the additional piece of trim on the top of the door where the window belt line weatherstrip is to make them look correct.

The 88-93 convertibles and the 88 T-top models did get the post mounted mirrors that are unique to those models so keep that in mind too. The mirrors do not mount at the leading edge of the glass, but rather bolt onto the door metal and use an additional reinforcement inside the door for strength.

Thanks for the quick reply. So to confirm, the '79-'86 are the same part?

I believe there were some chrome versions early on. Not sure exactly on the years but I have never seen them by 84.

Morning Chaz, while I don't know the year interchanges very well, one interesting thing I learned from 83GTJIM that the 83 mirrors are different from left to right. One side has a pronounced line on the backside & the other is smoother. The mirrors are original on my 83 as far as I know & I never noticed that detail until Jim asked me to look at mine. I just thought I would mention if you compare pictures you might not find one that is identical. No idea why they are like that. Maybe he will chime in.

I know how detail oriented you are, so you will notice if your mirrors are like that. You need the left side, correct?

Welcome to FEP Chazman! I saw that car pop up on CL and thought to myself that I hope someone gets that car and preserve it. It's getting harder and harder to find nice clean examples of unmolested 4 eyed cars. I would have never guessed it would be a Camaro conservator but if we have room for Carl (1983-GT) then we have room for you! PM me if you need help with that mirror.

Thanks Jim for the warm welcome! And...I'm just the guy to preserve that GT, ask Carl about my history. I will indeed PM you. Thanks!

Make note that the mirrors have a year etched in them at the bottom center of the glass.
