Default My '82 Mustang GT, SURVIVOR!

Figured I should post up a thread.

    I just bought this car:

I've got to thank member onetrackrider for connecting me with this car and describing it thoroughly on the phone to me.

It's a one owner, all original, unmolested, New Mexico car. The owner was fairly firm on negotiating price, but if you come from the "rust belt" like me, a rust free car is worth a premium.

I expect it to be shipped here within a week and then work will commence. I'll need a few parts like driver's side mirror, drivers side tail light lens, and I'm sure some other stuff when I see it.

BTW, this is my first Fox. I think this particular one will clean up nicely!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Thanks! I will be sure to post on it's progress. I've bought about 5 or 6 cars long distance, and they are usually worse in person than you expect. Wondering how this one will be? Hope for no surprises.

No sure what you are asking, but the Ford paint code should be a 1G for the silver in 1982 IIRC. Was only available on the GT models if my information is correct. Cool car and good luck with it!

Holy original car Batman! That is super nice. I'd like to get my hands on that one myself. Porno red and all. Very nice indeed. I still love the odd options on the early cars. They ordered a rear wiper but yet no power windows or locks.

    Are those rear louvers factory?

Thanks, it's originality is what got me. I'll see how bad, (or good) it is when it gets here next week.

Nope those are aftermarket louver by the look of them. Its possible they might be Ford over the counter louvers, but I can't tell for sure.

The factory louvers were not available with the rear wiper option IIRC.

Here are the factory installed louvers on my 82 GT.

My 79s original paint code was the 1G silver.

WA is a GM thang. Ford generally is a 2 digit only.

Thanks! I need to get up to speed on Ford nomenclature. LOL!

    Awesome car.

And Trey — those factory louvers are absolutely awesome. Now to toss some stuff out of that poor thing and make it driveable again!

Unfortunately I don't have time to work on my 82 GT. I am too busy trying to finish a buddy's silver Mustang.

It's funny I thought about that being a GM thing at first and then I wasn't sure if that was an acronym for something.

Sorry, it is a GM thing. I've had six 3rd gen Camaros and still have three of them. I wonder what they will say when they meet their new room mate?

It's OK! Although I can't agree with the Chevrolet vibe I am a huge Trans Am guy too! I've had only slightly less of those over the years than Mustangs!

I have a 1969 Firebird that needs a full restoration, I have a 1981 Turbo Trans Am that's in the same situation and on top of that I have been keeping my eye out for a 87-91 GTA for awhile now. I seriously have a problem!

I've been looking for a '79-'81 Trans Am for a while. Someday I'll run across the right one. GTA are cool cars, you can still get a nice one for cheaper than IROC, which appear to have taken off in price.

Super great! Is it MY silver Mustang? Hey — a buddy was wondering..... it doesn’t look just exactly like a 2004 HD truck anymore does it? Lol. Simply hilarious... glad I have friends that know how tto make everyone laugh!
