Though I do not believe those wheels/hub caps are correct. Standard tires were 13" and optional 14" with wheel covers.

Wheels may be correct but I don't believe the covers are. I would need to see the build sheet, window sticker/Eminger invoice, or Marti report to be sure of the original wheels and tires.

Wow, it seems to be worth the starting bid price. I’m sure it has some flaws but of what can be seen in the pictures, it looks pretty darn nice. One major flaw though. No catalytic converter!

Is the single hump cross member incorrectly installed also? Doesn't the exhaust go on the underside not over?

I see a couple other things that make me wonder but I do not want to nit pick.

Ha. transmission crossmember is upside down. I'm not buying any of it. They did spend a lot time cleaning and sourcing NOS parts. Also did a lot of plating. It was a bit of effort for certain. Just say that then if that's the case. I'd be curious what kind of story comes out with this "one owner" car once you start pressing for registration receipts etc. Too much fresh black paint underneath.

Pass side rear spring out of perch?

1979 dealer brochure says 13" bias ply std on base model.
No pics or mention of dog dish. Full covers.

"Base model" means with standard (2.3L) engine but this has 5.0L engine which required 14" tires.

I contacted seller. It also has metric (TRX) wheels. Which would explain the rear sway bar from the TRX handling Suspension. All in all...nice car with a few errors...maybe over restored....but at the current $14K bid....I just can't see the price. No doubt this will ring the bell.

    Current bid, $14,000

First thing I'd do is cut that price by 2/3 and then start the moddin' by yanking that boat anchor 120hp engine.

Original wheels/covers were 'steel wheels' with 'turbine wheel covers'.

    Original tires were 'CR78X14 WSW'.

Car originally came with 'Handling Suspension' system, which included a rear stabilizer bar. Rear stabilizer bar was not exclusive to TRX equipped cars.

Is that an original shifter bezel/console or is that aftermarket? I dig it regardless.

  20. #20

That shifter bezel, along with a drop-down ashtray beneath the radio, was in cars that did not have a factory console installed originally. According to the build sheet this car did not have a factory console originally. Consoles were optional in all Mustang models in 1979, except in the Pace Car it was standard.

Some like to put in their high bid early and walk away. I get it. Ultimately, it's a lot of car for $11k but put the original hubcaps back on and lose the professional photo shoot and I think this car would have a tough time cracking $10k. It sure is sweet though!

I really like the car. I would put the TRX's back on and I think the looks would improve. It is not 'original' and it has been a bit over-restored. But it's still an early V8/Manual trans Fox body low optioned..and I think that makes it a win/win for a buyer. I would pay $11k all day. maybe a bit more...but $14k..is a bit too much IMO.

TRX was not original to this car. Steel wheels with turbine wheel covers were original to this car.

Got it..I'd still put the TRX's on to improve the looks. Too bad the B.S. moldings are missing.
