83 motor mounts

Quick question, when putting motor mounts in a 79-83 mustang k member, are the studs supposed to go into the long teardrop shaped holes, or into the square slot on the passenger, and the round hole on the driver? Right now I have them in the latter, but it doesn't seem right because there is hardly any room to get the nut onto the bottom stud.
