    Default 1980 Door Check Replacement

I was wondering if anyone has ever replaced the door checks on an early Fox. The checks are broken on both doors on my car and I'd like to replace them. I have the new parts for both the upper and lower hinges, but just wasn't sure how to go about changing them. It would be nice to have the doors working properly instead of flopping back and forth. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Tried everything, finally removed hinge from door and pressed it in between the jaws of my vise.

Not the pins. These are the pieces that fit in the hinges that hold the door open. Don't know how to describe them exactly. I had a feeling it wasn't going to be an easy fix. Whether or not I replace them will be contingent on how much longer I own the car. Need to list it on here for sale, but haven't done it yet. Don't really want to, but given my current circumstances, I need to. Taking it to a couple shows this weekend to see if there's any interest in it. Had a few people inquire about it, but just tire kickers so far. If I can fix the door checks and make other improvements to it, it can only help.

    He is talking about this.

I tried pry bars of all sizes and used wood with bars and like I said above, this is what worked.

Those spring plates are held on just be a single bolt into the hinge as I recall.

Thanks for the post to remind me to do this too.
Took a quick look outside at the door.
Door off for access to the one check arm(s) bolt(s).

Checked the 79 shop manual for info. 80 should be the same.

Thanks for the illustration. It's very helpful. I have a copy saved to my desktop.
