Not really excited to get to body work or engine so interior it shall be for a bit. This doesn't cost me anything but time really. The next posts may show some OCD.

Shampooed the carpet. This is shaggier that the black one that was in our other car. Must be the Ghia touch. Note the rubber foot protector location. These seem all over the place. The SEC black replacement we bought for the other car was off also. Must be the way they are thrown in the molder.

    Before:

After. I used a little Bissell upholstery shampooer we have. The colour is actually a little lighter in person than the picture shows.

    Default Leather seat cleaning.

Got some leather cleaning advice in another thread topic.

    http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...d-refurbishing

I didn't end up having to get anything fancy. I was expecting needing something special. Turns out I could have tried to use a 5:1 Woolite and water mixture that is a "detailer secret" or go to the car dealer and get some OEM recommended product for $15. It is Motorcraft ZC56.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...sjhyn.jpg.html

The back seats did not need a lot of muscle to clean. They were more dusty than actual worn in dirt.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...dbdum.jpg.html

Here is the passenger seat before I started.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...f0uvc.jpg.html

After doing a hidden test application, I started on the first section. I used the scrub brush lightly on the surface and also in the seams. I wiped and then reapplied and used the cloth to scrub and get into creases easier.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...pkfoa.jpg.html

The passenger seat done. The lighting in my basement isn't the best even with one of my LED floods in use.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...iizst.jpg.html
    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...frmly.jpg.html

The drivers seat before and after. Pretty happy with the results.

    Thanks Jon!

Seeing as I had moved the entire interior into my basement, I spent the time to set up and clean it all up. This should save me a lot of time on the back end

Everything is in very good condition. A few small issues to deal with as noted below.

Dash bezels; I think these are the nicest I've ever seen. The chrome is fully intact and shiny!

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...rv7jk.jpg.html

Rear quarters - one broken upper tab.

The coin tray, while not scratched or anything has some broken tabs. I will have to look at what I can do to fix it into the console better as it wants to pop up at the shifter end. I think someone had done repairs on the shifter or shifter area at one time. More on that later.

One of the A-pillars has a broken upper tab. Seems the usual thing to happen.

    Default Console good and bad.

As I had noted above about the coin tray damage and the shifter being accessed previously. Here is some other damage to remedy:

Bad: The shifter bezel was only held on by two of the four screws. Once I removed it, I find the shifter plastic indicator broken.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...9zhw8.jpg.html
    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...fzhec.jpg.html

Bad: I had noted a screw missing from the right side of the ashtray housing when I was pulling the console out. Upon closer inspection, I see that the flapper for the ashtray door had been broken and repaired. Someone must have gotten angry trying to get at something.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...nv8z2.jpg.html
    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...m6m23.jpg.html

I have a spare that will need a little bit of refurbishing to make work. One interesting observation is this original housing and door is PLASTIC. Not metal!

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...ticnq.jpg.html

Good: The ashtray and cigar lighter do not look to have ever been used.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...bsjrz.jpg.html

Bad: I think whomever accessed the console area used something to clean up and the chrome trim was affected.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...w1trz.jpg.html

Good: The silver sharpie was still good and did a decent job covering up.

Good/Bad: The chrome around the shifter is in great shape. The black will need a touch up.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...tb9vh.jpg.html

Good: The console is in overall great shape and cleaned up nice. Only the seemingly minor items above to worry about.

Last of it was to go over the dash pad. Again, I do not think the lighting and picture do it justice. I could see the difference as I washed it.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...6o5a9.jpg.html

That's a majority of the interior pieces so far

    - Fix coin tray
    - Fix shifter pointer
    - Fix ashtray
    - Fix catch on map light (no pics yet)
    - Headliner

    See you in the future!

It's great to see people appreciating original interiors- as opposed to spray bombing them black, which seemed to be the norm for a while. Looking fantastic!

Everything is looking really good! Impressive results on cleaning the seats. Wish the interior in my 82 RS was in that good of shape.

I also see we have the same ability to use the pool table as a work bench/storage area for large bulky items. My wife put an end to that when we moved into the new house.

Seeing those pretty door armrest pulls reminds me to mod a good ds spare so as it won't flex and crack.
Vinyl cover eventually splits near the center where the indent in pic is.
Underlying foam allows the vinyl to flex too much, somehow even under light elbow pressure.
Thin plastic or plywood insert. A firmer support under the vinyl cover.
Newer vehicles have a more durable design with harder foam or are a one piece mold.

    Same with the ashtray door.
Replaced mine with metal version. I think the whole lighter assy bezel is metal.
Plastic version door hinge cracks there for some reason.
Possible one does not know about the 2 retaining screws and yank on door trying to remove plate.
There are shallow and deep versions of ashtray, with slot lens for ashtray light.

Thanks! I'm still debating whether the odometer is 17k or 117k. I will have to do a survey with some evidence for both sides and have a debate!

As for the pool table...we do not spend as much time in the basement as we used to but this time I am at least not using the top for long term storage this time!

I can see what you mean with the weak spot on the arm rest.

I have never seen the plastic one before and I'll have to double check because I thought the area by the lighter was plastic also. For the ashtray and likely for a Ghia with the interior convenience group it does have the illuminated ashtray version

    Default Speedo!

Well Fidel. The speedo actually read 16791 miles Just not sure if 116791!

While I think the original US speedo with the KM on this inside is sufficient to get this car through the final inspections in Canada to register, I had kept a few salvaged clusters and had set one aside for this car a while ago.

I decided to make the speedo swap anyways. Plus it was a 180 km maximum versus the 130 km on the original.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...tqdcy.jpg.html

Back of the 79 cluster. The printed circuit is different than the later ones but the speedo should be no issue.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...q56dq.jpg.html

I swapped the needle off the original on the left to the right. Unfortunately I broke the tip off the older, more faded one on the right taking it off. The green is slightly faded on the Metric speedo compared to the beautiful original.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...hcgfn.jpg.html

I gave the face a little polish as well as the cleaned the lenses. The original had a couple of scratches but honestly was pretty mint!

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...gfkq0.jpg.html

Not sure how this goes over here but I did change the mileage on the odometer to the metric equivalent 16791 miles x 1.609 km/mile = 27022.495 km

I am sure with this documentation plus the bill of sale and the import documentation all matching this should be okay

    Default Floor mats

I forgot to show the matching period blue floor mats that came with the car. This is as clean as I could get after a couple of scrubbings. Too bad it just had the fronts.

I am doubting these were originals and maybe are period correct aftermarket. Actually not sure what it would have came with from the factory

I have pulled the remaining chrome trim off the car including the rear quarter windows. I found on the Tangerine Machine that it's trim was better to put on with the window on the 79.

    Some observations and discoveries.

I had noted this little grape on the driver side quarter window frame and was surprised it would have made it through production with it. After removing the trim, I see they had a small welding challenge above it.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...qo8vo.jpg.html

The other 79 had the lower window trim all attached with these types of fasteners. The door ones came off as expected.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...ntpjd.jpg.html

Too bad in my haste I ended up wrecking one of the back ones before I realized they were attached differently and with a threaded clip and nut

As I wrecked the clips along with it, I will likely just use the barrel nut and the same plastic inserts - once I find a replacement.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...gout9.jpg.html
    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...kdp6t.jpg.html

I had pulled the mirrors off a while ago but did not look too closely at them. When removing the trim I noted some suspicious damage.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...qwdy8.jpg.html

I took the mirrors out of the housings and now see that the passenger side has been replaced. It has a late "80" date on the glass. I have had suspicion the car had been rubbed against something at one time as the whole passenger side has been (rattle can) resprayed below the pin stripe.

I had found this broken piece in the console when we got the car and did not know where it came from. Now I do.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...5saeh.jpg.html

The factory painted Ghia mirror housings are well done and full coverage. Almost look moulded in the colour. The replacement not so nice but all will get redone along the way!

Here is the trim pile for most of the chrome.

It all looks in really good shape. Even the chrome rockers look pretty decent. Everything just needs a good cleaning and then I will go over it all with the polisher like I did on the last car. It had turned out quite nice

The door dew wipes are really good also. I think this car spent most of it's life in a garage or carport out of the sun and elements.

Parts I will need at this time:

    - Chrome drivers side lower window door trim.
    - Chrome passenger side lower quarter window trim.
    - Chrome two piece upper windshield trim

    Making great progress!

My 82 RS is the Wedgewood blue interior also. My seats upholstery is different, but I believe the rest of the plastic and carpet are the same basic color.

Not sure what your exact plans are with the instrument cluster. The only thing I will say is that the wiring is different for the 79 printed circuit board compared to the later model. You need to make sure to keep the 79 printed circuit on the cluster going back into the car. The gauges all seem to interchange with no issues, but the the wiring (specifically for the ALT(Volt) meter on the 79 cluster compared to the AMP meter is different) I am not sure if you can swap the AMP gauge for the ALT gauge without additional changes, but I honestly didn't want to either. Anyway putting the wrong circuit board in a 79 will cause an instant electrical short with smoking and possible fire. DON"T ask me how I know! Good Luck!

I have not actually verified it Fidel. That is just what the odometer actually read. Doing some more removal has me doubting this has not gone around once.

Once I have everything apart, I will put up some pictures for everyone to help me determine mileage.

I only swapped the replacement speedo into the original cluster and the same 79 printed circuit. I remember a discussion or something noted previously around that they were one year only and not interchangeable with the harnesses.
