After getting the column out I pulled the firewall brake lines. They look in good shape with some undercoating on the passenger wheel wheel piece. I will clean them up later when it's nicer and can work outside. Them and the tranny cooler lines.

For the last project, I had not even thought to check under or remove the hood hinges and boots. When it was recommended getting closer to painting I had found a bit of corrosion to deal with.

This time I was proactive. With looking in VGC you wouldn't expect anything.

While minimal, there is a bit of surface rust to deal with while I do the other parts of the firewall. New boots are available but think these could be reused. The rubber seems soft and pliable still. Maybe I am being cheap lol

The throttle cable and speedo look in excellent shape and cleaned up well and are ready to go for when the time comes.

And I need a speedo grommet and noted all the repros sold by the inline retailers are black and not quite the same. Both our 79's had this whitish looking one. Maybe the repro is the only answer. It needs to be pliable to stretch over the dash end of the speedo cable.

It's a factory installed system as far as I am aware. Speed Control was a $104 option on the Deluxe Marti Report invoice. I am still not sure how it all worked but I guess the spliced gizmo in the speedo cable with the plug that attached to a center dash harness and maybe was the low speed cut off? One day I may figure it all out!

I think I mentioned I had taken the drive shaft off. This again had the black paint special and a strip of rust that they mustn't have been able to get to that day.

I had hoped it may have been better preserved but this car had winter driving duties on likely salty Colorado roads and anything bare steel exposed to it got surface rust like this.

The Tangerine coupe's drive shaft still had faint color bands for the application.

That is the speed sensor for the cruise control. It produces a a sign wave electrical signal that the cruise system uses to determine the speed of the car.

Driveshaft stripes were common on the first gen mustangs. Can't say I have seen them on 3rd gen cars. I have seen a yellow paint spray at the rear flange indicating a balancing or assembly mark. Just line it up with the yellow mark on the pinion flange.

That's a pulse generator. It outputs xxxx (maybe 3k) pulses per mile and that's how the CC unit knows how fast the car is moving.

Edit: I should have read further to see that there was already the correct answer given.

Came across this in my travels and thought of this post. Not sure if you'd want a new one. Or even if it's the correct (or near enough) bezel.
