    Default 86 dash pad source?

Was replacing the front speakers in my wife's 86 Mustang. I got the dash pad almost in place and I pushed a little in the speaker area and I pushed a hole right through the pad. The pad was so brittle in that area. My wife seemed to understand, but I got to fix it right. Who has the best replacement dash pad?

I did a short write up about 9 months ago. Do a search here.

The Dashes Direct still has some issues. You need to factor in shipping costs as well. Watch out for long lead times.

The color needed could be an issue too. The current Dashes Direct are NOT to be painted.

Not to be painted? Don't they come on black only and need to be dyed to match?

I think the aftermarket dashes look okay, but I'm not looking for concourse perfect looks. IMO the plastic caps looks okay to get you by while looking for an oem pad or waiting for the perfect reproduction. Another option is to have your's vinyle wrapped. I have no idea on pricing for this option.

The new version of Dashes Direct comes color molded on urathane. In my case it came in red. Stay away from the previous version which was floppy urathane. The current one has sheet metal reinforcement.

Or you could do a search and read the write up I did.

I ordered a new pad from LMR. If it is poor quality I will look for someone to repair my original, its perfect except for the hole in the speaker area.
