Does anyone know where I can buy the black air deflector (sits underneath front air dam) for a 1986 mustang. Mine is pretty worn out. Thanks again.

Are the Aero car deflectors the same?
I'm sure It'll work but are there any differences?

I know NPD is now a sponser but Fox Resto should be about $20 cheaper with their free shipping

No they are a different shape. That's why they are listed for 87-93 only. You can bolt it on hacker style but I would prefer the original deal.
is there really that much difference between the 86 and 87 deflector i need one for my 86 as well
IIRC, the 87-93 is actually a big deeper or extends lower than the 86 and earlier version. This was done to improve the cooling on the GT cars with no grill opening in the bumper cover. There really shouldn't be much difference if any in how it attaches to the lower radiator support. If you had the 86 version, you could most likely trim the 87-93 version to match the size and shape of the 86 without any difficulty. If you are border line on cooling efficiency the 87-93 may help duct a bit more air into the radiator for improved cooling.

87-93 won't bolt on due to different fascia. You would have to drill new holes. Been there done that.....
I think the new ones do bolt on but are still not the original shape as mentioned above. Can't remember where I got mine last time but it definitely would NOT bolt on to my '86. Again I figured it wouldn't because they list it for 87-93 only (they're usually right) but I wanted to see the difference. Glad it worked for you. Please post pics if you have any. Thanks much.

In the middle of its resto...
The 86 Mustangs without air did not have them. I don't remember the part number but they haven't been available from Ford for a long time.
Just wanted to let you guys know that NPD does have another option for the Radiator Air Deflector. We offer both Original Ford and a new Reproduction unit that is done by Daniel Carpenter. They look great and are about half the price. See link below

Oh yea sorry wanted to add one more thing. Th Original part number for the 1979-86 model year is a D9ZZ-8349-B and was not replaced by any other number from what I can see. Also the 1987-1993 model part number is a E7ZZ-8349-A.

I went through this with my 86 coupe. I had to drill two new holes to get the 87-93 deflector to work..
86 coupe
1993 GT
My 10 Sec street cars
Did the pre-'86 cars have these? I cannot find a good picture of an '82 with one. I tend to think mine never did.
News to me. I have never seen a pre-1987 car with one of the air deflectors on it.
Around here, even when the cars ('79 to '86) were brand new (ac and non-ac) I have not seen an air deflector on any of them. Welcome to Canada.
On 1987 to 1993 cars...all of them had it.
Oh well, learned something new.
Rob
Wonder if it was specific to certain options and certain regions - none of the 79-84 cars I have ever owned (probably close to 12) had this piece and most of them had never been modified.
1984 Mustang GT owned since 1991 (first car). Mercury Mountaineer GT-40P engine, some suspension mods, currently undergoing a five lug SN95 brake upgrade and more suspension mods. Some minor body and interior mods have been done as well.
2004 GT convertible, 2001 Taurus LX, 1994 F150, 1950 F-1 Ford Pickup
Your guess on options / ship locations could be the best repsonse until we have concrete evidence. 2 of the three '79 models we have are turbocharged 4 cylinders, but only the Pace Car has the air deflector.
