    Default Please educate me on 1986 Cougar xr7 5.0 cars

    Trying to round out my collection
    It's either a z7 Zephyr
    Or a 86/88 xr7

    Can someone give me some info
    On 86 cars

    Not exactly sure what you’re looking for but I can tell you what I know. The XR7 Cougar was only available with 2.3 Turbo from 84-86. Seems like allot of them are automatic but 5spd was available. 87-88 XR7s were 5.0/auto only. Note that the 5.0 are roller cam but NOT HO. I owned a 87 XR7 and loved it. One of the best driving and handling cars I’ve ever owned. Didn’t care for the digital dash though. I believe 88 XR7s all had analog gauges.

    Cast or forged pistons
    gear ratios
    brake options (rear disc like the turbo coupe or not)
    etc

    Like 85/86 body

    For me, the perfect swap car would be a 88xr7.

    Has the 8.8, good interior and a s.o. motor. A full h.o. upgrade is a weekend and a few $$$ away.

    Next would be a stripper 86 5.0 car. The 87-88 body style is up to 200lbs heavier for a nearly identicle optioned car.

    No XR-7 5.0 in 1986. As Rich said all 1984-86 XR-7 were 2.3T. The 5.0L in 1986 was the GS or LS.
