Default What will prematurely disappear simply due to cost?

Steam to diesel. Rail to airlines. Props to jets. Cars. Interstates. Cruise ships. Manufacturing companies, products, brands.
Big shifts, changes. Happening for a long time. Variety of reasons. Economics, speed. New ideas to lower costs for all.

"NASCAR feels like it has to do something. Technology has evolved to such a point that the costs to participate far outweigh the benefits of doing so. Itís not a sustainable business model. Sure, some teams will take the savings from fabricators and suspension specialists and just reallocate those resources to computer (R&D and robotic car fab?) programming."

Only cost effective to build huge high profit stick houses and big vehicles?
What happened? When did it start? When did low tech be reclassified as not an option?
How were small houses and cars done? With corded phones, typewriters, pencils and pens? 40 hour weeks?
Ask the computer? It will say 'not my fault'. As a middleman I only do what they tell me to do, right or wrong.

Gotten too expensive to race? They say "owners did it to themselves spending so much trying to win".
Will NASCAR go to self driving race cars? Full size electric r/c slotless slot cars?
    Allowing in global manufacturers?
Car noise soundtrack broadcast thru PA system?
Going to all generic box cars? Hybrid in 2022?
One hour pit stops at charging stations?
Killing the traditional chassis for 2021. Independent type rear suspension.
Eliminate the variation of race car design. Will the driver be next?
Sticker graphics will be the only way to id brands on the track. No wind tunnels allowed.
250,000.00 dollar soap box derby global cars and new rules. Throw out the old rule book.

Every season, new rules and tech make the cars harder to control, resulting in more crashes. Same in real life?
Over complicate everything, shrink anything that cannot be made huge.
Anything undigitized or with low profit margins will not be tolerated.

NASCAR owned and built cars, sponsored by auto companies, paying NASCAR to brand the generic cars with decals.
The old audience continues to shrink. Like new car buyers? Race on Sunday, buy on Monday is no more.

Default Last Chevy Impala rolls off assembly line

One of the nicest looking new cars built in recent years bites the dust.
Another car/truck, that started to stand out with good looking styling, got the axe.
Prob nameplate will be back like Camaro, Ranger, T-Bird, GTO, others were revived
Electrics are being pushed on to the public 20 years too soon thanks to we know who. What else is new.
Camaro rumored to be gone in 2023
All the tech, big money, and hours spent creating current vehicles and power trains of only the last 5-10 years to be wasted trying to almost totally reinvent the car.
Looks like will keep what i have even if i have to rebuild it out of wood or any manufactured parts that will work.
I suppose aftermarket companies catalogs will drop most new car parts and either focus on the past or disappear as a company.
Domestic internal combustion power train items especially.

Yep, nothing but bad news coming out of the auto industry. Meanwhile Ford stock continues to nosedive, and no one likes Hackett except for the people responsible for keeping him in his job.

    Default National Mustang Day 2020

Ford celebrates 56th anniversary of the Mustang today, a snowy April 2020 day in Detroit.

The large Ford Rotunda building, in the background of one of the commercials ,was moved from the fair in Chicago to Dearborn.

I'm surprised they splurged for the one. $100,000 car, probably a plastic hood... you'd hope, but it doesn't mean they'd do it.

So, I just got done watching a video about the new CT5-V Blackwing. VERY cool car. Kinds ugly, but still. When was the last time Ford attempted something like that? Have they EVER?! No... not really... at all. I would have been all over a rival for the Charger and SS too, but nope. The only thing that was close was the huge, heavy, FWD, no V8 havin' SHO and MKS/Continental. LAME. And now there are no CARS, let alone V8 sedans. They're all about making vehidles that are either trucks or electric. You want something else? You're lookin' in the wrong place! They just seem to run faster and faster away from anything I like. 5 years ago I would have NEVER considered another brand, but now... that CT5's lookin' pretty dang good. Or maybe a used CTS-V or SS...

I read in the Car and Driver new car issue that they think they're going to win back all the hundreds of thousands of people they lost buying Fusions and small cars with the Maverick. You're hilarious, Ford. If I'd wanted a truck, I would've bought one already.

I'm still pissed that Mercury is gone. I have been a huge fan my entire life.
79 Zephyr, 4v/4r70w swap planned, with team z front and rear suspension, 8.8 and upgraded brakes and coil overs.

Yeah, that one stung too. Since they decided not to give it any unique products, or when they did, y' know... try to MARKET them, that's the way the winds were blowing. I had one of the last Mercury products, a Milan. It had a unique 2-tone interior and a MANUAL. It was a cool car for a blah grey sedan.

The rumored Cougar version of the '05 Mustang would have been SOOOO cool! They could have made an Ecoboost, IRS modern touring coupe that could actually compete with the rest of the world! But, like so many other cool things Ford could have done..... NOPE. All we care about is trucks. Trucks, trucks, trucks.

    Massacre and Zephyr and All,

It took me awhile to begin to appreciate Mercury. My Dad bought a 64 Colony Park and it was a nice wagon but what did I know at 5 years old? I think management turns over and never learns or forgets the reasons for past business decisions. Mercury was supposed to be a step up from Ford but not as expensive as Lincoln. When you can get a Ford thatís dressed as good or better than a Mercury, whatís the point? Mercury Racing was a powerhouse in the day. Look up Al Turner. A self trained car builder that MR hired to boost itís AF/X program in the late 50ís early 60ís. AF/X turned into Funny Car because of him. He figured out that the engine is basically an air pump and the more air you can stuff in it, the more power it makes. He worked with Crane Cams and developed cams that produced power that gave the Mopar Hemis headaches. The Ford engineers were quite jealous. He wouldnít cough up his secrets to them. Mustang gets most of the attention but as it has been said, they are belly button cars. Everyone has one. Iíll be attracted to the rarer rolling works of art.

Not sure if anybody else has noticed but drive up ATM's are now reach way up to use if you do not drive a truck/SUV/minivan.
I went to my Mom's bank that had new ATM's installed, I was in my 99 Mustang (stock height) and had a hard time reaching way up to put her card in the slot.
