Guess Ford plans to carry on the Mustang name when the car version is gone.
Have watched several metro detroit freeways and major local roads being built and rebuilt, 60s sandbox days thru adulthood.
Our 3 year old new suburban ranch house had to be moved from the path of new section of I-94 back in 1959.
Dad was not happy having to have another similar ranch built then move again 5 or so miles north. New schools for us kids.
Prob could have moved the house to another open lot nearby as others did but ma said no all the plaster would be cracked.
Was a trip as a 2nd grader to see whole houses moved off basements and down the street to another basement.
Our next door neighbor did not know we would be living across the street from them in the new neighborhood.
Parents made sure they were not home during construction update inspections to keep it a surprise. Was a good one.
The smell and noise of summertime. White concrete curing compound, screaming detroit diesels, dust.
In the 80's huge mass excavators dug out the last segment of I-696 ditch in the 80's.
Twin V-12 engined pretty sure were Koehring 1266D. First time i seen and knew of a twin engine excavator.
Pic of them:

Seen them working for years on the way to work in the Mustang. Eventually the new xway connector saved commute time.
Met an operator of one of the excavators in a bar one day. Said machine was retired to a gravel pit. I found it.
Asphalt is used as an overlay on wore out roads to buy time. Is also used to pave gravel roads.
Is more common to resurface with asphalt. Section of dirt road by my house was paved with asphalt/slag. Working out good.
If the concrete and base is good under worn out asphalt repave, they will strip the asphalt and reuse it.
Lots of gravel in Mich. Its up to MDOT for road material spec and testing.
Concrete is used for new roads and rebuilds here too. Supposed to be good for 30 years. Ha.
Few years ago the oldest stretch of 696 was rebuilt. New sections had to be to be ripped up and repaved due to faulty mix.
I-275, nb sb just west of the airport, was first constructed 70's with no expansion strips as an experiment. Lasted 20 y.
When it was rebuilt 1999-2000, expansion strips were installed, rather than the continuous pour.
Then home owners along the freeway complained of road noise, even though they chose to live there.
Something to do with the milled traction grooves running width-wise of the road.
So millions more was spent to re-mill the brand new concrete with grooves running in the direction of traffic and noise walls.
The milling caused many pieces of the expansion tar? strips to eventually rip out looked like thin recap truck tire debris.
What a mess on a new interstate. Ok now. They do sort of cause the car to wiggle sometimes.
Same companies reconstruct the runways at Metro. Basically Detroit has only two companies to bid on major road projects.
A new direction?
