Default Why I can not support Demolition Derbies:

    http://www.derbypro.com/DUgallery/pi...Cat=28&iPic=72

No matter how littered they are with typical POS cars, there's always some jerk that puts in something cool. I've seen classic T-birds, straight full-sized two door (desirable) Fords, and hell, even some nice GMs and Dodges that should NOT have met the fate that they did. Good cars and good parts get ruined needlessly.

And, something to consider, the smaller/non-full-framed car classes will get more and more common as the large/full-frame cars start to dwindle in numbers.

That is a crying damn shame!!!
They should be religated to chevettes, aspires, escorts, cavaliers, festiva's and the guy who did this should use a pinto with the stock gas tank!!!

the whole dirt track hillbilly racing is the same way. ive seen guys take perfect looking 70 chevelles and older camaros, rip EVERYTHING out of them paint them ****ty looking colors and go race them, just to get the whole thing smashed to pieces the first race and then start over with another perfectly good muscle car the next week. and im not talking about a run down rusted out POS im talking perfect body and no rust cars. they will smash out the glass and hack up the front ends to do their idiotic crap

its the stupidest form of racing there is.

Actually I grew up in "hillbilly land" as you might call it. In the middle of nowhere Iowa. I lived about 40mi from a circle dirt track where they had those races. The favorite cars were the early to late 70's camaro's and T/A's. I did however notice that most of the cars that were used were pretty rough, most of them came from fields where they had been sitting for god knows how many years. I don't think many of them would use a good car for that purpose considering the fact that they don't use any of the original drive train, none of the original interior, and they destroy most of the body when they put in the circle track specific roll cages, and fuel system. However i'm sure that there are a few morons out there that might use a perfectly good car but out of the 4-500 I saw none of them were nice cars to begin with.

On monster Garage last monday they had an all girls team that made a demolition derby car out of a nice old cadillac. Its realy a shame that all these old cars that can be restored are destroyed instead.

Unless there is a class specificly for small unibody cars, a mustang is going to make a lousy demo-derby car. Even in a class for unis, there are prolly much better choices like an older 4-door Mavrick. Maybe something without a hatch! The hatch really weakens the rear area of the car, which needs to be as strong as can be.
