    Default Hello from Southeastern Indiana!

    Hi all,

My name is Sean and I’m a product of the 80s! I had an 85 Mustang GT auto with T-tops in the late 80s/ early 90s. Been a while since I’ve owned an 80s Mustang, but just bought an 85 GT 5 spd and evaluating what I’ve gotten myself into. It’s in need of some love and I’m looking forward to being an active forum participant. I just got her home this morning, so will post more details soon. Thanks!

Gorgeous fox. All of these babies need TLC. Some more than others. What part of Indiana? Interior and engine shots would be nice.

Thanks for the replies. I’m in Batesville, IN and there are a few early fox bodies running around out here. I added some more shots. Name: 0BC0AA77-2CE8-4EDD-AE79-5F6E71C9A6BB.jpg

This one sat in a warehouse since 2008 and will need some serious going through to get it right again. Paint looks good in pics, but it’s a cheap respray and they painted everything- trim, moldings, everything. Some rust issues. Floors look ok but bottom of hood, doors and hatch all have some issues. Drivers side shock tower has some issues, top of the hatch opening on the body has some surface rust- maybe more.

Its got subframe connectors that go through the passenger side floor. I’ve never seen this, but have not been around the fox Mustangs much. Interior is pretty shot.

It runs really strong, shifts nice. Suspension is toast. That maybe where I start so I can have some fun with it this summer. Maybe I need to get a better handle on that shock tower before getting too deep.

I should know better than to trust eBay... hah ha! Overall I’m excited to start the turn around on this old gal. Will start with engine maintenance and go from there. already have a full rebuild 69 project in the garage, so not really looking to get into that on another one right now. Anyway, looking forward to learning more from the forum and sharing my experience with my new gal.

Congrats. Considering where you live, that isn't too bad of shape.

Welcome to the site and welcome back to the 80's! The rust from the pictures look like it's all surface. Hopefully so as there are products out there that will take care of that easily.

Frame rail below strut tower is rusted through on drivers side. I’ve been reading threads on the fix and they all look like the engine is pulled to do the work. Planning to do some more research- any advice is appreciated.

I am thinking I could drive it over the summer and focus on some other issues and pull it in the garage for the frame rail over the winter. Is it safe to drive this way?
